Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Nice quiet site, next to a babbling stream and surrounded by old trees. Lovely, clean, free hot showers with a hair dryer. Cafe at the farm buildings, easy walk to nearby pubs. Great location for hiking in the fells.

Disliked: Nothing it was awesome.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: The place had spectacular views. The pub was great and within a very short walk. The amenities where all that was required. The shop provided the essentials and a great choice of cakes and pastries. The Saturday night pizza barn was a great idea and an opportunity to talk to fellow travellers.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Beautiful setting Friendly but absent staff Showers excellent if a little distance away

Disliked: Sadly we had a large group of "lads" set up a large camp near us. Their rules expressly forbid this They urinated in by the walls, made lots of noise including playing music until well after 1am The staff are not on the site to enforce policies it's a shame Ultimately a big disappointment I'd stay again if no other choice because of location

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Gorgeous mountain views & the friendly people that work there. The showers are nice and spacious with hot water and an area to change. Plenty of adorable wildlife including some very brave robins and I was able to hear owls in the night. We set up on a bit of an awkward angle but were able to wake up to the beautiful stream running down the edge of the camp. The stream itself gets to about knee height at its deepest point so it good for a wade. Was not too many other campers for early September camping. Keswick was our go to town during the bad weather and it is lovely. If you want a fire, bring your own raised fire pit, it was lovely sitting at our site and listening to the river at night while the fire crackled and kept us warm (I wish we were luckier with the weather so we could do this for all of the nights)

Disliked: (most of these are to be expected with camping - so not really a put off for me, just to be aware) The bathrooms could do with an update - the toilet didn't seem to flush properly / the mirror is quite low / one of the lights switches was broken. The sink for washing up is cold water only. The showers are quite a while away off site, said to be a 6 minute walk but we drove up each time due to the weather, and had to pay for parking there. No wifi/network service at the campsite, need to travel out to connect. Did not get to try the pizza's they advertise as they only did them on days we weren't staying (i'd suggest them also doing it mid week to include more people?)

Local attractions

Dust off those hiking boots, for Seatoller’s surrounds are stacked with walking trails to suit all comers, from those seeking a gentle stroll through woodland and across heather-strewn fells to those in search of more vertical challenges. The beginning of a couple of the national park’s top climbs are easy to get to too – Great Gable (an hour and a half) and mighty Scafell (a couple of hours). Roam a little further afield for hikes on Catbells (15 minutes’ drive), around the Castlerigg stone circle (25 minutes) or on the slopes of Helvellyn (half an hour away, and a fine choice for mountain bikers too). If you’d like to have a crack at climbing in a controlled environment, try the via ferrata route at Honister Slate Mine, five minutes away, and worth a stop for an underground mine tour even if you’re not up to clinging on to crags. All sound a little tiring? Less demanding days out include the Lake District Wildlife Park (half an hour) and the sculpture trail at Rydal Hall Gardens (40 minutes). It’s worth knocking around Keswick for a bit too, visiting the eccentric Puzzling Place exhibition and Derwent Pencil Museum or taking tipples at the town’s brewery. Alpaca trekking at Lingholm Estate and Whinlatter Forest are some other splendid days out.
