It’s all about properly immersing yourself in nature at West Yorkshire’s Woodsworth Exploring – this is a place that’s been set up within 10 acres of broadleaved woodland, with options to pitch tents in the grassy glades or set up a hammock to hang out in the woods (bring your own or hire one on site – someone will be around to help you set it up properly). Peace and space are in good supply here: numbers are kept deliberately very low to ensure that traditional back-to-nature vibe is preserved for all. There’s tons of scope for woodland adventures too: kids can seek out dens hidden among the trees, or construct their own (be sure to bring wellies). Cars are parked near the site entrance so it’s pretty safe for children to roam free around the woodlands. The pitches are between 100 and 400 metres away from the car park. With this back to basics setup come a few handy amenities, including wheelbarrows to help you carry your gear over the several minutes' walk to the pitches, a drinking water standpipe and flushing toilets and sinks. Dogs are welcome to join you here, and of course you’re able to light campfires for a bit of evening warmth (a small extra charge applies for this). Filling your days with more rural outings should be easy, as there are lots of walks in the area for both experienced hikers and leisure strollers. You can get straight out from the woods onto a public right of way for the 10-mile round trip to Top Withins or the easier mile-long amble to Oakworth station (the set of the Railway Children film). And is all of this in the middle of nowhere? Not at all – it’s a five-minute walk to Oakworth’s small supermarket, and there are pubs and restaurants within 10 minutes’ walk. Bigger Keighley is 10 minutes’ drive away should you need its amenities.

Gostou Enjoyed last time that much I've booked again :) This time I went with my mum and 2 dogs.
Toilet block clean, I got the same pitch as last time and good to see the pitch well maintained and clean since my last stay. Great induction, really helpful staff. Duncan even helped me back out of my allocated parking space as the parking was full which made it a squeeze, really appreciated. I'd recommend getting all your gear out your boot and then reversing in, which I will do next time. Again, the site was booked up but the distance and tree cover between pitches meant you still felt very cosy and isolated in the wilderness!

Gostou I stayed here for one night as a solo female traveller with my dog and it was exactly as described. Communication before arrival was excellent, and the owner met me on arrival for a friendly and efficient check-in.

The individual pitches were a nice touch, giving a bit of privacy and space, and the whole site felt well organised and looked after. Most importantly, I felt safe and comfortable staying on my own.

A simple, pleasant stay with everything I needed. I'd happily stay again.

Gostou That the money goes directly in to conserving the woods and protecting the wildlife, giving them a safe space.
The bird app recommended so we knew what we were listening to.
The site felt far away from anything but was actually very close to amenities.
The owner was clearly passionate about their work.

Gostou Great back to nature campsite/experience. Large pitch areas in the woodlands with nobody overlooking you. My 5 year old loves running around looking at all the wildlife and fungus on the trees.

Não gostou The only thing I didn't like and can't be helped so didn't effect my score but the public footpath along the edge of the site had a very loud group of lads walking through it around 9pm shouting obscenities at each other

Gostou Had another really nice stay at Woodsworth Exploring. Despite the site being full it never felt crowded or noisy. I was worried there might be queues for the two toilets on site but it turned out not to be an issue. Due to the very high fire risk there was unfortunately a 10:30pm curfew on campfires after which they had to be extinguished, which was a shame but understandable with the extremely dry summer. As usual the staff are lovely.

Não gostou One of the two toilets was in an absolute state this morning so I don't know how regularly they are checked and cleaned. This is the first time I've ever seen them not be clean, so hopefully a one off.

This is a bit nit picky, but as I stay at more and more different sites and seeing what level of facilities are offered at different price points, I do think the amenities on site are a bit lacking. No paper towels, no washing up liquid or sponges, no hot water etc despite being on the upper end of typical campsite prices is something they really should look into improving on. I get that it's suppose to be 'wild camping' style, but wild camping is free and as such you expect to rough it, if you're spending the best part of £40 a night, some paper towels or a washing up liquid dispenser isn't that much to ask for I think.
