Angling fans may find it similarly peaceful to take advantage of the free river Maun fishing opportunities available on site. When it comes to food, there's a handy catering barn (which, with advance notice, can sort meals for guests with special dietary requirements), plus a small shop that stocks plenty of sweet treats and souvenirs. If you'd rather step out for dinner, make your way into Walesby (a mile away), where two popular establishments are all set to serve up pub-cooked food. While there may not be a playground on site, there are 250 acres of space for ball games and adventures.

Gostou It is close to other places like Sherwood Forest and Thorseby Park.
The staff are really friendly and welcoming when you do see them.

Não gostou Mostly everything else beyond the smiley staff. Should have realised that although listed as a campsite, the camping side of it appears secondary to the activities and therefore is not good at all.

Noise - horrendous. This place is full of rowdy groups, drinking, swearing beyond belief, playing football and loud music until gone 1am and then again at 6am. The field we stayed in is next to a road which looked like it would be quiet but actually has cars noisily speeding down constantly.

Facilities - filthy. Washing up area was utterly gross. Toilets had no toilet paper for most of the weekend. Mud and dirt everywhere, all over the showers and no squeegee available or staff seen cleaning at all. The showers have little space to help children or babies get dry or dressed that isn't filthy. No hairdryers or plug sockets (even a coin operated one would've been helpful with how cold it got at night to take the chill off from wet hair).

Gift shop - lovely little shop, but only a gift shop and not really any camping supplies. Bought a packet of Jaffa Cakes which were rock hard and when we checked had gone out of date 2 weeks prior - again, the staff were brilliant and just refunded them.

By all means, camp if you are interested in a rowdy weekend with a large group or a weekend full of paid activities, but as far as family camping goes it has a lot to desire.

Gostou The activities.

Não gostou The cleanliness of the shower/ toilet block. We were there for 2 nights, and we didn't see any cleaning staff. There was no toilet roll or soap for 24 hours. They re- filled the toilet roll as we were leaving.

Gostou That there was plenty to do so kids were kept occupied.

Não gostou The fact that there was chanting, shouting and screaming until 11pm. My daughter couldn’t sleep as she was scared and wondered what was going on. The fact some of the chants were to do with past events too made it even more frustrating. No prior warning of any event going on and there were thousands of scout/guides there lining up like the military. It was quite intimidating for my 6 year old daughter. We had food in the bar which was terrible. Pasta was cold, pizza burnt and with an incredible amount of tomato sauce base made it almost impossible to taste the toppings. I was very disappointed with my experience overall and won’t be in a rush to return.

With its tales of Robin Hood, ancient oaks, country houses and lush leafy landscape, Sherwood Forest has something to keep most sorts content. Clumber Park (15 minutes' drive) has long avenues of limes and open heath to stroll through, while over by the Major Oak (10 minutes) you can get acquainted with one of the area's stand-out trees before setting out on several waymarked hiking routes (maps available at the visitor centre next door). Similarly close to base is Go Ape Sherwood (10 minutes), where a medley of segways and zipwires nicely complement any on-site activities you've got up to during your stay. Kids not quite old enough for that kind of activity? Fear not, as families with younger members will find plenty of age-appropriate entertainment at Wheelgate Waterpark (15 minutes) or Sundown Adventureland (20 minutes). Spending time in town is also doable here, as Walesby Forest is just over half an hour from Lincoln's castle, cathedral and urban arboretum. Meanwhile, over in Newark (30 minutes), there's Civil War heritage, antiques shops and weekly markets in a handsome Georgian square, plus hovercraft tours if you fancy something a little different.
