Amble around the coast or venture inland for wildlife watching, boating and family days out from here, all within a stroll or short drive. The seaside resort of Lowestoft is the closest to Pakefield and home to a famed lighthouse (Gulliver), a museum and access to Ness Point, the UK's most eastern spot. Southwold and its beach huts is a short drive away along the coast, as is Great Yarmouth, with handsome beaches, an aquarium and funfair. The scenic sands of Dunwich and Aldeburgh are also well worth a beach-based wander. Inland, the Pakefield team recommends the preserved medieval wool towns of Lavenham and Clare, a swing among the trees, zipwires and bridges of Go Ape! in Brandon and an eagle-eyed look at the giraffes, cheetahs, rhinos, lions and much more of safari park Africa Alive! in Kessingland on the Suffolk coast. Adventure park BeWILDerwood, just outside Great Yarmouth, is another top option for a family day out. Around the Norfolk Broads Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, go for a wildlife-spotting boat trip or take a puff on the Bure Valley Railway, running for 18 miles from Wroxham to Aylsham.
