La Chapoulière

There’s heaps to do in the area around La Chapoulière. The friendly folk at reception can book some activities including horse riding, treetop adventure courses, canyoning and rock climbing for you, as well as organising bike and canoe hire or pointing you in the direction of good hiking routes. You can’t leave this area without taking in two of its finest sights (perhaps some of the finest in all the land): the Pont d’Arc stone arch and the Gorges de l’Ardèche, both of which make mighty fine viewing from a canoeing or kayaking trip or a hike, and both in the natural reserve reachable within 15 minutes' drive. While you’re over there you may also want to delve beneath the surface to visit the Aven Marzal cave and visit the dinosaur park. Also nearby are lots of little villages for poking about in: try Ruoms or Sampzon (both 10 minutes’ drive or an energetic 45-minute walk), or Labeaume and Balazuc (15 minutes’ drive) for markets, little shops and historic streets and buildings.
