Off-grid, relaxed, and with plenty of space to pitch where you want, the pop-up Mortal Man camping field is set just below The Mortal Man Inn – 10 minutes’ drive from Windermere in Cumbria – and is a simple, family-friendly base from which to enjoy the landscapes of Troutbeck Valley and the surrounding fells. No matter if you’re stopping over for a night or staying a bit longer, this place is all about fresh air, great views and easy access to the alfresco adventures that makes the Lake District National Park so special. A stream runs alongside the camping field, adding to the peaceful setting and forging a real connection to the landscape; you can wake up to the noise of burbling water, have a splash around with the kids and let your dogs cool down after long walks in the hills. There are stunning views in all directions – especially at sunrise and sunset on clear days, and the site is spot-on for walkers and outdoor lovers, with many hiking and cycling routes starting right from the pitches. And after a day on the fell, you’re less than five minutes’ stroll from the pub, where hearty food, local drinks and a well-earned rest by the fire await.
