Would waking up and walking just a few feet for a spot of fishing be something of a holiday win for you? And how about finding that around 30 minutes by car from Warwick, Birmingham and Leicester? At Makins Lakes, in the village of Bramcote and 10 minutes’ drive from the Warwickshire town of Nuneaton, your pitch won’t just be close to a peaceful peg, you’ll also have a long list of Heart of England holiday highlights close by. Of course, the lakes on site aren’t just for the enjoyment of anglers. Being by the water brings a peaceful feel to all the pitches. There are views over the Warwickshire countryside too, but this isn’t a middle-of-nowhere kind of place. Each pitch is hooked up with electric and water access points. The shower and toilet block have accessible areas for disabled guests and there’s also a family-friendly parent and baby washroom. There’s an on-site café and bait shop and if you can’t bear to leave the lakeside, they’ll even deliver food out to you so you need not stop fishing all day. When you’re ready to rest your rod for a bit, it’s a 25-minute drive to catch a bit of culture in Coventry (UK City of Culture 2021) or 40 minutes to Stratford-upon-Avon, the must-see town for all things Shakespeare.

Ik was blij met Easy access, great communication and good size pitches

Ik was niet blij met The ladies facilities were dirty, 3 out of the 5 toilets were blocked from other campers and not cleaned for close to 24 hours. The floors were not cleaned at that time, only toilets flushed out.

Ik was blij met The reception young girl gave my daughters some squewers to roast marshmallows which was really sweet so thank you abd the shop was really well stocked

Ik was niet blij met Bathrooms were not clean, constant blocked toilets, the smell was awful, thick hair sat in plugs.
The none electric field had rubbish, random clothing all around it.

Ik was blij met They take groups.
There was water at every pitch.
The pitches we had were very spacious.
The fishing lakes look beautiful.

Ik was niet blij met Toilet, shower and washing up facilities are grim! Need a good deep clean from ceiling to floor and everything in between....and this is deep dirt that has built up over time, plus cobwebs, spiders etc.
Please replace the mops, they are absolutely filthy!
Loo roll needs replacing more often, we were there 4 days and it ran out twice!
Not enough facilities for the amount of people on site.
No hot water at cleaning up area, and no plugs in the sinks!!!!
Clearly no care or pride for the camping area. It needs care and attention. This is a budget, backpacker type site but the money charged doesn't reflect that.

Ik was blij met Open site, beautiful lakes, easy booking and easy access to hook up.

Ik was niet blij met The toilets/showers were not in a great condition, males were dirty but wife said the women’s were clean.

Very noisy and inconsiderate neighbours playing music shouting until nearly midnight.

If you’re in the mood for a quiet picnic or woodland stroll, Coombe Abbey Country Park (15 minutes’ drive) is a 500-acre parkland made for whiling away a day outdoors. There’s also a play area, zip lining and climbing forest if the family’s up for an active day. Or you could always try out the angling here too if your break really is all about fishing. Entertaining the kids shouldn’t be too tricky around these parts either. Immerse yourself fully in the medieval world of dungeons, knights and princesses, jousting and falconry with a visit to Warwick Castle (35 minutes). Or scream if you wanna go faster at Drayton Manor Theme Park, home to rollercoasters, Thomas Land and a 15-acre zoo. Animal antics of all kinds are also order of the day at Twycross Zoo (30 minutes).
