Venture to Lower Vessons Farm for a nearly-wild experience at a site in the Shropshire Hills National Landscape, 40 minutes' drive from the West Mid Showground in Shrewsbury. The scenery at this family-run park is stunning: see pics, then choose your spot in the 16 acres of dense woodland or on one of the vast fields. According to the owners, the main attraction here is having a back-to-nature break without any noisy neighbours to worry about (and they've spaced the pitches a whopping 50 metres apart to make sure that's the case…). Given the level of seclusion, there are no roads on site; access is over grass, and campervans are welcome. If the weather causes problems, the owners and their vehicles are on hand to help get you on and off the grounds. While the idea of being stuck at this site is actually rather a smashing one, you won’t really want to be restricted from roaming around top Shropshire destinations like Shrewsbury (half an hour’s drive away) and Ludlow (an hour). For explores without a car, Eastridge Woods (15 minutes’ walk) is well known for hosting mountain bike competitions and has trails that are free to use, whether you’re a beginner or an expert cyclist. If Lower Vessons’ rural location has you questioning where on earth you’ll find food, the answer is that it won’t be much bother – the nearest pub is a mile away (if you wish, opt for the nice countryside walk, which takes about half an hour through the fields and woods). Takeaways and restaurants are also within a couple of miles of the site. As part of the wild experience, this site has no showers, just portable toilet facilities. It welcomes campfires, barbecues and dogs. Guests are also welcome to bring their horse to the site for an additional fee (simply add it as an extra when you book – hay and straw are included); there are some stunning trail rides in the area.

Bezoekers prijzen de mooie, afgelegen locatie met prachtig uitzicht en een rustige "wildkampeer"-sfeer. De ruime plekken bieden privacy en veel ruimte. De vriendelijke, attente gastheren worden vaak genoemd. De basisvoorzieningen, zoals chemische toiletten en koude douches, worden als schoon en voldoende ervaren. Ik was blij met Loved that there's no facilities. Really back to basics site. Heavenly views. Lay in bed listening to owls at night and cuckoos in the morning. Absolute bliss!!

Ik was blij met The owners were so kind and helpful- and very responsive.
The views were just beautiful. It’s such a peaceful place to stay. There are lots of lovely walks nearby as well, with a very nice local pub.
You can purchase log baskets to use with the on site fire pits which is a really lovely touch.

Ik was niet blij met It is very off-grid. There are only portaloos, and no running water so difficult to even wash hands or wash up after meals.
It is a very beautiful though, and we would definitely return if only staying for a couple of nights. It would be difficult to stay for much longer than this as a result of the lack of shower facilities/running water.

Ik was blij met Amazing views, right next to Eastridge Woods for walking & MTB trails, clean toilets and showers, pitches well spaces out.

Ik was niet blij met Can take some time to find flat ground. Cold water showers and no washing up area, but that is made clear under features.

Ik was blij met Stunning location and fantastic views of the hills. We had the entire field to ourselves, so was brilliant for the kids to run free. Very much a "wild camping" feel. If you like a pristine site with flat ground, mown lawns and hot showers this site is not for you. But for us it was perfect.

Ik was blij met Beautiful place. The view's are breath taking. Lovely helpful host. Nothing is too much trouble. So quiet and peaceful. Our favourite camping spot. Clean and pleasant smelling toilet's. Shower's available too. Fabulous place.

From Pontesbury, take the right-hand turn onto Chapel Street and follow the road for 1.6 miles. Entering Habberley, take the slight right-hand turning by the green triangle. Please follow the road for one mile (ignoring any other turns), take the right-hand turn up to Lower Vessons and you will see the camping sign next to the Lower Vessons sign. Follow the signposts for camping up the lane for half a mile to reach the site.

Navigate your way to the National Trust’s Attingham Park for explores of an 18th-century estate home to deer or swing by Stokesay Castle (45 minutes) enroute to the lovely Ludlow (an hour), a town with Tudor-style buildings to gaze at while meandering around the market-filled streets.
