Opened by the Shingler family in 1974, Lower Lacon Caravan Park is just a mile from the stunning market town of Wem in north Shropshire. With train and bus services in Wem being within walking distance, the site has easy access to plenty of local attractions, including Shrewsbury, Ellesmere and Whitchurch (which are all within 25 minutes' drive of the site if you'd rather take your own transport). The site has a very convenient and secure set-up, with a barrier system, 24-hour emergency cover and a warden and owners living on site. There are two play areas on site, as well as crazy golf and a heated outdoor swimming pool with a toddler's paddling pool (please take note that the pools are only open during high season for pre-booked sessions only, and weather dependent). For extra entertainment, the J.A.K.K.S. Barn (open on weekends during low season and closed during winter) has a bar and occasional family discos. When you're hungry, pick up snacks at the on-site supermarket, which also has an off-licence. The J.A.K.K.S. café and takeaway (open on weekends during low season and closed during winter) are on hand for further refreshments. By the pool, there's the choice of CJ's Snack Bar (weather dependent) and the adults-only Windmill Lounge Bar (only open during high season or on weekends during low season and winter), which has a marquee. Lower Lacon Caravan Park has a pretty cool backstory, having started as the back entrance for the Aston Park American Army Camp, a munitions and distribution depot built in World War II (on land purchased from owner Clive's paternal grandfather). During its development, a D8 bulldozer sank in the soil, so the land was covered with three feet of solid materials from local foundries; this can make placing pegs difficult but it also means that the team have never had to turn away any customers due to bad weather as the pitches stay firm.

Ik was blij met: Large pitch size
Secure site with barriers. our ‘travel party’ is just two- single mum and son- so it is a factor to feel safe
There were large family groups gathered around the Barn entertainment shed - but there was no noise from the ‘pub’ audible at the tent pitch at all.
Gated play area next to the tent pitches- well away from main access route/ moving vehicles
Was able to have food delivered to site via usual phone apps.

Ik was niet zo blij met: Stayed on a very quiet night with just one other tent on the field so can’t really understand why allocated numbered pitches directly adjacent to each other unless it saved money to only power one electric output post?? Thankfully our ‘next door neighbours’ were pleasant but it would have been an unnecessary annoyance otherwise.
The mobile toilet block was super clean but would imagine in school summer break the facilities must be very cramped; cubicles are small and the sinks are washing up bowl size.
The play area was really safe location but the equipment is designed for young children. My son is 8 and was quickly bored. I appreciate there is a second play area at the other end of site but we didn’t get round to checking that out (only stayed one night)
Paid for WiFi, which was fine for phone but not for small device with Firestick- seems you need a touch screen to select necessary options to connect, couldn’t find a work around on any device settings, and staff member at the snack bar wasn’t able to offer any insight, so gave up in the end.

Ik was blij met: On route to our next site. Pitch was spacious with hedges in between. Plenty bins on site. Easy check in. The little walk through the woods was cute. Plenty toilets which were clean.

Ik was niet zo blij met: Could just do with a little tidy; strim round and weed kill. (Maybe we are heightened to this as land owners, maybe most guests wouldn't notice). If you're looking for a quiet site, this isn't for you.

Ik was blij met: This was a brilliant site, we were first time tourers and lower Lacon was perfect. We were on a grass pitch which was level and very spacious. We loved how friendly and helpful the staff were- in particular the warden that drives round on the buggie (Ernie I think his name was), he was lovely and very helpful indeed. Toilet and shower blocks were very clean and always had toilet/soap in them. Jakks bar had some great entertainment on in the evenings for all the family. Play areas were very clean and safe and were always full of children playing and enjoying them. The shop is well stocked and very reasonably priced. Bbqs and fire pits were welcome, which was perfect for the brilliant weather we had. There are animals darted about the site in fields which was a nice extra touch- making you feel at home with nature. The takeaway is an ideal option and food was served hot and very tasty. All in all we had an absolute blast and have nothing to fault. We can't wait to come back and visit again soon. Thank you to all at Lower Lacon.

Ik was blij met: Pitch green 12 was great, weather lovely, showers toilet very clean, staff very welcoming. Would be brilliant for families with children due to the facilities. Would definitely go again

Ik was blij met: Staff were great, the site shop was well stocked. Toilets blocks were very clean. Fully serviced pitches were spot on.

Ik was niet zo blij met: There was a fair bit of litter around the site.

Ik was blij met: nice site shame my stay on this occasion was not good

Ik was niet zo blij met: the whole three days of my stay was spoilt with the sound of 5 yapping dogs which started between 6am and 7 in the morning and then to top it off the van next door smoked pot all the time not what i need to smell and as for the rules of the site alot of them went straight out the window

I'm very sorry for the noisy dogs in your area.
I've looked up the bookings around you and out of the eight pitches in that bay, 6 had dogs.
If the dogs seemed upset, we would always like this reported. As hopefully the dog should never be unhappy.
But you are right the orange area is the best place if you prefer an area without dogs.

Shropshire is a pretty peaceful place without too many crowds most of the time, so grab your chance to get stuck into a few gentle activities like floating on the Shropshire Union Canal, river Severn or Llangollen canal (50 minutes' drive). The site is also within striking distance of Ironbridge Gorge (45 minutes), a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Adore exploring the history of a place? Take yourself to spots like the British Ironwork Centre (35 minutes), Blists Hill Victorian Town (40 minutes) and Royal Air Force Museum Midlands (40 minutes), or pretend like you've gone back in time at Attingham Park (25 minutes), a National Trust site. The Quarry (half an hour) is a gorgeous spot for a little stroll in Shrewsbury, and if you fancy something a bit more challenging, Hawkstone Park Follies (five minutes) has sandstone hills and caves. If you're looking for activities that'll entertain the kids, however, make a beeline for Hoo Zoo and Dinosaur World (35 minutes). The site is near plenty of historic Shropshire towns and villages, from Hodnet (10 minutes) and Ellesmere (20 minutes) to Market Drayton (20 minutes) and Oswestry (40 minutes).
