After a cosy spot somewhere in the Cotswolds? Historic houses, museums and market towns are out in full force around the cosy Cotswolds Camping in its Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty six miles from Chipping Norton… to be exact, this family-run site is 15 minutes' drive away from Blenheim Palace and within striking distance of many characteristic Cotswolds trails. At the same time, Oxfordshire is the other way and Oxford itself is just 15 minutes’ train journey away from Charlbury Station (five minutes’ drive). As for those of you with a soft spot for a hardcore shopping trip, you won’t be left in the lurch here, as Bicester Village has a shopping outlet 35 minutes’ drive away and Stratford-upon-Avon is 45 minutes’ drive away for handsome riverside scenes and independent shops. Now, how about those hiking shoes? Well, the site has access to fancy footpaths, bridleways and woodland walks, so you’ll be able to get right to the rambling. You might want to stop by the local village, Charlbury, on your way around the local area, as there are food shops, pubs, cafés and restaurants here, all within walking distance of the site. And don’t worry, you’ll be able to carry the good time onto the site, as barbecues and firepits are both permitted – the same for dogs. As for the facilities you’ll have on hand, these include a play area, shower, toilets and a dishwashing area to help you deal with any dirty pots and pans.

Ik was blij met: This was our first stay away in our new campervan and we couldn’t have picked a better place to go for our first adventure. A beautifully presented site with fantastic facilities. Very clean and well looked after. Everything you need for a comfortable stay. Hosts were always on call for any questions or anything we needed. Very cute cafe and gift shop as well as a little shop on site for essentials if required. Would definitely recommend to a friend and we will definitely be back again soon. Thanks for a lovely stay.

Ik was blij met: Good facilities. Lovely surroundings. Coffee shop was great!

Ik was niet zo blij met: Hook ups were way too far away and site didn’t offer extension leads. I had a 25 meter hook up but it still wouldn’t reach across 2 pitches to the electricity point. I paid for electricity and couldn’t use it. Wasted money. Getting into the pitch in inclement conditions was challenging. Lots of wheel slips. Staff did well but were overwhelmed.

Ik was blij met: Good campsite with good facilities. Hot showers and washing up station. Nice little shop with coffee available. Fish and chip van on Saturday night. Local coop with a good range about half a mile away.

Ik was niet zo blij met: Not enough electric points. Depending on which pitch you are on you will need at least 25 metres of cable

Ik was blij met: The site is in a great location, and full of character with it's qwerky pods, and huts, our pitch was up high so had great views. Unfortunately the ground was water logged so lots of vehicles were getting stuck on entry, but the site staff were super heros and places boards down and insured everyone get moving and to their pitch. The children loved the den building area. Fish and chip van on a Saturday evening was super and not to expensive. All toilets had loo roll, the website said it didn't provide, but they dom

Ik was niet zo blij met: One of the Shower blocks was locked due to missing parts! You would of thought they would just go to a local shop to purchase the parts in order to get the block open again. Open main holes, dangerous for children. Had to put a fire out in a ash bin, due to rubbish being put in there. Lazy campers (not site staff) bags of rubbish thrown in piles, instead of walking 100 metres to the bins.

Ik was blij met: We liked the campsite, it was tidy and the staff were helpful. The washrooms were clean and ot had a lovely play area.

Trail time? You might want to begin with the Roman Fosse Way, passing by the towns of Stow-on-the-Wold (25 minutes' drive) and Moreton-in-Marsh (25 minutes). Or from Lechlade-on-Thames (half an hour), perhaps you'll roll right on to the Thames Path, if you’re not drawn into the water with watersports such as canoeing. Characterful towns and villages are a Cotswolds staple and it shows… Burford (15 minutes) is boxed full of unusual shops, pubs and tea rooms, while in Witney (20 minutes), you’ve got classic entertainment courtesy of a multi-screen cinema, shops and leisure centre mixed in with markets and the historic Cogges Manor Farm. In Woodstock (15 minutes) there’s more history inside The Oxfordshire Museum. Like Chipping Norton (10 minutes), the place has a swimming pool, shops, pubs and tea rooms galore, to add to Chipping Norton’s theatre and cinema. Historic are many of the houses around here, and that includes the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Blenheim Palace (15 minutes), the Jacobean Chastleton House (20 minutes) and or the 18th-century Buscot Park (35 minutes). For more activities in the throw of it all, there’s Cotswold Wildlife Park & Gardens (25 minutes) and Bourton-on-the-Water’s equestrian centre, brewery and motoring museum (half an hour).
