Surrounded by the splendid countryside of Mid Wales, Hay-on-Wye Caravan Park is an excellent accommodation option – whether you’re into hiking or into the rather more sedentary activity of losing yourself into a good book. The family- and dog-friendly site is a mile and a half from Hay-on-Wye, the small town on the English border known for its concentration of independent and specialist bookshops. The town centre is a mere five-minute drive away, or you can walk it (along a country path) in about half an hour. What’s more, the park sits a 10-minute walk from the grounds of the famed Hay Festival of Literature and Arts, which takes place at the start of summer (late May–early June) and draws authors, artists and other creative characters to this corner of the world. That’s the bookworms sorted. What about the walkers? Well, there’s plenty of choice for them, too, with Brecon Beacons National Park within a five-minute drive. Explore the park’s hills, woodlands and waterfalls, keeping an eye out for wildlife such as water voles, badgers and bats. It’s worth lingering until nightfall, for the Brecon Beacons is a recognised International Dark Sky Reserve, so you’ll be rewarded with spectacular views of the Milky Way and assorted constellations. The proximity to the River Wye also means there’s plenty to do on the water, with several outfits renting out paddleboards and canoes, and arranging guided river trips or canyoning excursions. After all that activity, you might well be ravenous, so stop for a bite to eat in Hay-on-Wye, or purchase your provisions there before heading back to base and getting the barbecue started. There is a communal freezer on site, as well as a large washing-up area with a dishwasher. Other amenities include a shower and toilet block with an accessible/family-sized room.

Mi è piaciuto Perfect stay from start to finish. We were welcomed with our check in pack explaining everything that was needed, but then the owner popped over to check everything was ok. We’d accidentally only bought a 25metre cable with us so they swiftly lent us a much longer one - this was needed as our pitch was huge! We enjoyed a glass of wine on the grass next to our campervan as the sun set. Facilities were excellent. Clean and a great size with everything you could need. Star gazing once the sun was down was exceptional. Really beautiful site, great location with a simple walk into Hay on Wye, will return!

Piazzola tenda su erba senza elettricità

Mi è piaciuto I struggled to find a place that could accommodate tents, campervan and motorhome. Add to that we were a same sex group of me. The place was very welcoming; upon arrival the Lady moved our pitches around so the different units could be close to each other. The facilities were great and all very clean. A short walk into Hay through the back gate avoids any lengthy walks on the main road. Would book again!

Mi è piaciuto It's a lovely site that's well organised and layed out. The staff have a friendly welcome and say hello when passing which is nice. The showers and toilets are kept clean and stocked up. There is also a drying room for wet walking gear which is a big plus. It is walkable in to town which is about 30 mins along a lane and road side but recommended taking a good torch so the cars can see you along the lane.

Non mi è piaciuto For us the showers are to hot as they are not adjustable and just push button which was a shame and even the family showers are not adjustable so if you like it really hot then you'll be fine but to hot for me and certainly for kids.

Mi è piaciuto Lovely small and friendly site. Beautiful views. The facilities were spotless.

Non mi è piaciuto The only thing I would change is the proximity to the road. Although it’s not constantly busy you are aware of the traffic noise although I think if our spot was further in that may not be the case.
It wouldn’t be somewhere we would bring our son as nothing on site for him to do but if you want a peaceful getaway close to Haye on Wye this is perfect.

The 13th-century cathedral in Hereford (40 minutes) holds the Mappa Mundi, a medieval map of the world drawn on a calf’s skin and adorned with real and mythical beasts, plus dog-headed men and one-legged people. To learn a thing or two about Wales’s mining history, head to the Big Pit National Coal Museum (50 minutes), which occupies a former coal mine.
