What a bewitching place. And most especially for kids: Wookey Farm, a couple of miles from the famed Wookey Hole Caves (and their famed witch), is a tiptop option for small sorts and their owners, with loads of space to run around and a menagerie of animals to coo over. Older offspring will be sizzling with excitement on hearing that they can stoke flames and get social at the communal campfire area, while bigger folk will probably be content to bring along a firepit and laze idly on the family pitch, taking in the views of the Mendip Hills and towards Hembury and Yarley hills… Off site, it's three and a half miles from the farm to cutely compact Wells, six miles to Glastonbury, and a drive of 45 minutes to the coast at Weston-super-Mare. The site is on a small, family-run goat farm where guests are most welcome to meet the menagerie (sheep, pigs, hens and a donkey live here too) and find out all about running a farm. All pitches are in a level two-and-a-half-acre space with marked pitches or in an overflow meadow bordered by the River Axe: you can opt to be as mixed in or as far away as you like. Splashing, paddling and critter spotting can all be had in the river, as can back and forthing merrily on the rope tyre swing over the water (more swings are around the site if this seems slightly too hair-raising). Wookey Farm is run on eco-friendly lines, with emphasis on keeping things as natural as possible. Facilities are basic but well kept: four compost toilets and washbasins, cleaned twice a day; a washing-up area with water tap alongside; and plenty of facilities for sorting your rubbish (recycling and food waste contributions are keenly welcomed). For those barbecue supplies, the farm is just down the lane from Wookey village's café, shop and three pubs. There's also an on-site farm shop selling the farm's own goat's cheese, goat's milk and meat, along with alcohol, snacks and gifts.

Mi è piaciuto Relaxing. Thou it is pay as you go electric, it was cheap and my £5 for 2 nights didn't budge.

Non mi è piaciuto Better lighting around the facilities, especially the toilets. The grass maintained and levelled. Lots of small holes everywhere. No shower means wait til you return home or bring a shower camp bag with you. I didn't read the instructions part that the button has to go up. All I kept reading was pressing A or B buttons 😬

Mi è piaciuto Clean, small campsite with lots of very cute farm animals. Good value for money. Clean loos.

Non mi è piaciuto Next to a road that can be noisy overnight. Not something that can be helped by the campaite but on Friday night there was a prolonged period of music coming from afar, then closer, then afar again. Which I can only presume was a car driving up and down the road with their music blasting out. It wouldn't stop me booking again though as the actual campsite was lovely.

Mi è piaciuto The setting. Every pitch has a fire pit which is so unique and made our weekend. Metered electric works out so much cheaper. Couldn't even spend a fiver and we used a kettle, a heater, air fryer albeit for 10 mins once. Very good.

Non mi è piaciuto LOUD neighbours and loud music. So remote though the owners wouldn't have known so shouldn't rate it down really but I got really annoyed with bass music coming through my air bed until midnight. Zzzzzzzz

Mi è piaciuto Loved this back to basics eco farm with animals & a shop. So very quiet & close to wookey hole where i had booked for the next day. Loved that had my own recycling ♻️ bins for rubbish

Non mi è piaciuto I was pitched next to a caravan where someone obviously lives & had their TV on loud till late & early on in the morning which spoilt the quiet. Maybe this should be considered when being allocated a spot otherwise fab
