We're sorry to hear about the portaloos falling over during your visit and we completely understand how inconvenient and unsettling that must have been. Whilst Wednesday wasn't a storm day in the traditional sense, the Isle of Portland did experience some exceptionally strong winds over that period, which unfortunately caused the units to topple. Our team worked as quickly as possible to get them back up and secured, and we hope the disruption was kept to a minimum.

We'd also like to reassure any guests reading this that compostable toilet facilities are available near the shower block as an alternative, so there is always another option should the portable units be temporarily out of use for any reason. We now have permission for a permanent toilet block on site, which we hope will make a real difference to the facilities during the windier evenings.

We appreciate you flagging it and we hope it won't put you off giving Sweet Hill Farm another chance as in the right weather it really is a very special place to be and will have a new toilet block for next season :)

Surroundings- accessed through a building site, overlooked by high security fencing around a former military establishment.

Portland's night skies on a clear evening are truly something else especially when full of stars.

We're sorry to hear the portaloos fell short during your visit. We do top them up with toilet paper daily and our team maintain them regularly throughout the day, so we're sorry if this wasn't reflected at the time of your visit and will look into it. We'd also always recommend guests bring their own hand sanitiser when camping, as hand washing facilities are not something we're currently able to offer at the portable units. There are sinks near by the toilets and we’ve been given permission for a permanent toilet block which will create a better user experience.

Regarding the surroundings, we completely understand that the approach to the site and the security fencing of the neighbouring building aren't the prettiest of sights. The fenced building is actually now a local school rather than an active military establishment, and the wider landscape of Portland does carry its industrial and historical heritage proudly which is something many of our guests find adds to the unique and rugged character of the area, even if it isn't to everyone's taste.

We hope the views and dark skies were enough to make the trip worthwhile and we'd love the chance to welcome you back to Sweet Hill Farm again in the future :)

Mi è piaciuto Simple camping on a stunning location. Friendly staff and great bacon butties on crispy bread rolls available in the morning.
Basic camping.
Others had the fire pits going which was great.

Non mi è piaciuto Slightly overpriced given basic facilities though location perhaps made it worth it.
Suspect the facilities might be overrun on a busy summer season.

There really is nothing quite like a crispy roll with a view like ours to start the morning and we're thrilled it hit the spot. It's also lovely to hear the fire pit atmosphere added to the experience now it’s autumn and much colder in the evenings.

We appreciate your honest feedback on pricing and we completely understand that value for money is important. We always try to strike the right balance between keeping the site accessible and maintaining the quality of everything we offer, and your comments are something we always take on board. We're so pleased the location, scenery, walk down to the lighthouse and pub and the café all made such a great impression. There really is nothing quite like that walk on a clear day and we love that guests get to enjoy it as part of their stay.

And "we'll be back" are our three favourite words! We very much look forward to welcoming you again :)

Mi è piaciuto The owners are really warm and welcoming, nothing is too much trouble. Wild. Loos cleaned daily. Lovely clean shower block plus outside showers.Coffee shop and relaxed seating area. Sauna( we didn't use). About 4 outside washing up sinks spotlessly clean. Breathtaking views over Portland Bill and the lighthouse. Surrounded by nature, great for bird watching, rock climbing, walking, and historical facts. Surrounded by horse fields . glorious sunsets. Short drive/walk to local shops ,pubs, takeaways, restaurants. 15 minute drive to Seaside town of Weymouth and large supermarket. Minimal light pollution so great for star gazing and total peace and quiet after dark. Like stepping back n time.I've been before and would definitely come again. Perfectly clear directions for arriving at site.

We're so thrilled that so many aspects of Sweet Hill Farm made such a lasting impression, from the views over Portland Bill and the glorious sunsets to the showers, washing up sinks, coffee shop and the peace and quiet after dark. We put an enormous amount of care into every detail and it means the world to hear it all noticed and appreciated so fully.

It’s also nice to hear that you made the most of everything the surrounding area has to offer like the birdwatching, rock climbing, walks and the history of Portland are all things we're incredibly proud to be surrounded by. And the stargazing on a clear night is truly an experience.

Sweet Hill very much look forward to welcoming you back again for another visit :)

As for the October weather, we couldn't agree more, it does have a mind of its own at this time of year! But there's something rather special about camping in autumn and we're glad it didn't dampen the good company and great views :)

Mi è piaciuto Loved it xx amazing scenery. Friendly people. Even though it was on top of the hill, there was some bushes that protected me from the wind. I really love the place. Plus, your showers are lovely and hot.

Non mi è piaciuto I’m not a fan of portable toilet so compost toilets will definitely be an improvement for me. Also maybe the odd pizza truck on a Saturday night

We completely understand that portaloos aren't everyone's preference and we appreciate your patience with them. We now have planning permission for a permanent toilet block on site which we're very excited about, so watch this space as good things are coming.

We'd love to let you know that during the busier summer months we do run Portland Paella evenings with live music on weekend nights, which are a real favourite with our guests. We'd love for you to experience one in 2027.

Non mi è piaciuto The portable toilets were in bad condition. It had smelly sulphur, ammonia and old urine smells, that was unbearable to visit.

There was also an incident with a horse rider screaming at the vehicle in front of us doing 5mph. The person asked why they are shouting and the lady seemed to have made up a list of excuses and it sounded as if she was shifting blame for no reason.

We're very sorry to hear the portable toilets were not up to standard during your visit. Our team clean and maintain them regularly throughout the day and this is not the experience we want for our guests, we take feedback on our facilities very seriously. We are pleased to share that we have planning permission for a permanent toilet block on site, which we very much hope will make a significant difference for guests in the future.

We were also sorry to read about the incident involving the horse rider. We understand how unpleasant and unsettling an experience like that can be and we sincerely apologise that it occurred during your stay. We work closely with Chesil Equestrian who share the site with us and we will be sure to raise this with them directly, as it is important to us that all guests and visitors feel respected and welcomed at all times.

We hope that despite these issues you were still able to enjoy elements of your stay and we would very much welcome the chance to make it up to you should you choose to return to Sweet Hill Farm in the future.
