Surrounded by the mountains and woodlands of the scenic Neath Valley of south Wales, Wenallt Wild Camp is a peaceful spot on a family-run farm on the outskirts of the village of Tonna, a 10-minute drive from the market town of Neath. There’s a lot to like about this site, starting with its handy location – within walking distance (or a five-minute drive) of convenience stores, a golf range, a rugby club and a dog-friendly café on the river Neath. Gnoll Country Park (five minutes’ drive or 20 minutes on foot) has woodland walks, duck ponds and adventure playgrounds, plus a nine-hole pitch-and-putt golf course. There’s also a lot to like about how easy it is to get out to the coast. The sandy beaches of Aberavon and Port Talbot are about 25 minutes away, while the Gower Peninsula National Landscape (40 minutes) has dramatic coastal paths, sheltered coves and historic sites such as the ruins of medieval Weobley Castle. There’s also lots to see (including waterfalls) along the area’s inland waterways. Wenallt Wild Camp has facilities including toilets and showers (all of which are maintained to a high standard) and a covered communal barbecue area with a dart board, dining table and firepit. You also have permission to build campfires (in the designated areas) and dogs (on leads) are welcome on site. At the bottom of the lane, half an hour's walk away, is a local launderette with washing machines and dryers. Need to stock up on supplies? Try the local farm shop (five minutes) and sample some fresh Glamorgan produce.

Car can't be parked next to the pitch.

A aimé Lovely views and no road noise around. Would be lovely for tents although you do have to carry everything from the car.

N'a pas aimé 6 Camper van pitches (3 flat and 3 on a big slope) our van was on a 10degree angle so needed ramps with bricks underneath to get it almost level.
There was a large group staying onsite (around 20) and were loud until late (not ideal with a 2 year old trying to sleep).
There were dogs off leads everywhere even with “dogs must be kept on leads” signs all around the camp.
5/6 fires going despite the open fire bans in Wales with the drought and wildfires across the country.
Around 10:30pm a car parked on our pitch about 2m away from our van and was left there until we left (not owners fault of course) due to the limited parking around the side of the field.
Definitely not good value for money.

N'a pas aimé Toilet doors made like a pallet, people can see you use the toilet, door lock was hanging off and didnt shut fully. Defo wasn't value for money. Road to entrance of site was very difficult with pot holes and loose gravel

A aimé Well equipped, location, well looked after, the bell tent area nice a private . Just very welcoming.

N'a pas aimé No electricity (although new this) even is this was in the kitchen, lots of spiders so a quick clear out .
The charging device given didn’t work!! No WiFi if bringing family although nice to not have it

A aimé Great location right on top of a mountain. Peaceful site. Lovely walks. Its very basic. Thats why its wild. Compost toilets and showers do the job but nothing fancy. Owner lovely. We had two nights and would recommend.

N'a pas aimé Wasn't a dislike at all but brambles on way to shower block just need a trim.

A aimé Really well run site. The owners are seen cleaning the toilets and facilities regularly and even came round offering wood for the stoves (provided). Amazing views and lovely woodland walks, you MUST visit the old oak tree on the hill.

Attractions à proximité

There are epic hikes to be had at Brecon Beacons National Park (from 15 minutes’ drive), which is also home to attractions like the National Showcaves Centre for Wales (35 minutes), with impressive underground caverns like the so-called Cathedral Cave (featuring stalactites, waterfalls and subterranean lakes), plus lifesize dinosaurs. Stretching on the banks of the River Loughor, the WWT Llanelli Wetland Centre (half an hour) shelters kingfishers, egrets and several species of birds of prey, plus a lively flock of pink flamingos.
