The Lizard Peninsula, St Michael’s Mount, St Ives and all sorts of splendid spots along Cornwall’s north and south coasts are all yours for the taking when staying at Roselidden House Camping. This simple and quiet site 10 minutes’ drive from Helston is in a fantastically handy position for exploring – or for just sitting in the five-acre field and enjoying the views out over the Lizard Peninsula. There’s plenty of space here to relax and spread out so you’ll never be bunched up with other guests. Your neighbours will include the site’s own pet sheep and foster donkeys, so although dogs are allowed they’ll need to be kept on a lead at all times. Facilities are fairly simple but with all the essentials in place: guests will have access to a washing-up area, a freezer, charging points and a couple of bathroom blocks with family rooms as well as separate men’s and ladies’ facilities. This is a site that goes beyond just the essentials though – it’s also got a café which sells breakfasts, light lunches, drinks and cakes along with a few basic groceries including fresh milk (opening hours vary through the year so check the notices for details). Once you’ve seen the Lizard views from afar, it’s a fine idea to get out and take a closer look – there are some stunning beaches down there, with plenty of walks and watersports to get stuck into as well. Family attractions like the Cornish Seal Sanctuary and Helston Railway are also close by for kid-friendly days out.

Emplacement pour tente ou pour caravane pliante sur herbe et sur sol en terre sans électricité

A aimé Returned again to Roselidden after a wonderful stay last year. Location, welcome and facilities are clean and spot on.

N'a pas aimé With a view to being responsible in the drought, so avoiding fire, and being aware of the excellent café, we didn't bring any means to cook. On arrival, Dawn informed us that the Cafe wasn't going to be open for our stay, not even for coffee (Monday night). Thankfully Tesco was open so we got cold cans of coffee for the morning to save the day. Please update the Pitch Up page as it says the cafe is open daily in August!

A aimé Fantastic small quiet campsite with immaculate facilities. The owner is lovely, there’s the option for a delicious breakfast, great coffee and cakes at the on-site cafe.
We walked into Helston for the evening which took about half an hour. We would definitely stay again.

Emplacement pour véhicule de tourisme sur herbe et sur sol en terre sans électricité

A aimé Gender neutral facilities available. There are 2 gender neutral bathrooms containing a toilet and shower. They are within a portakabin style facility that has steps. They were well maintained.

There was baby changing in one of the gender neutral bathrooms, not sure about the binary ones.

There is also one ladies and one gents, which I would assume also contain a toilet and shower but am not sure. These were on the same level as the ground, so may be more suitable with mild mobility difficulties. There was also a sign saying an additional ladies is available in reception.

Donkey petting :)

Beautiful starry sky on a clear night

Knowing the cafe is available reduced anxiety around being fully food prepared given the quite isolated location.

The cafe is inside with plenty of seating. The menu is pretty diverse considering its a small campsite cafe where only campers are likely to use it. I had a brief scan of the menu and was impressed at how much was available. It looked like it was great for breakfast, lunch or tea and cake. The cake was good. There was Gluten free and vegan cake options. I didn’t look at the menu for these but given it has been thought of for the cake, it is a possibility.

There are also 2 enclosed and covered but outdoors seating areas plus the small reception area inside a building. This means there are plenty of options for rainy days on site.

Site has a nice view.

There are some outdoor seating, it looked like some toys were put out (but they may have been a campers), the reception has charging available with lots of 3 pin sockets, there was a washing machine and I saw books either here or in the cafe or both, 2 washing up sinks which quickly provided hot water and offered washing up liquid and sponge, drinking water, BBQ coals bin and main bins in car park at entrance to pitches, chemical disposal.

Close to Helston, seal sanctuary. The SW coast path isn’t too far from Helston.

If noise sensitive: I noticed a number of distracting/annoying man made noises, which are likely due to the farm location. There was also a cockerel in the morning. I couldn’t hear it in my van (I heard it whilst using facilities around 5am) but would have heard it in a tent and the donkeys occasionally make some noise, but I personally enjoyed that. It is a small location with plenty of pitches so you are likely to be close to others, so if chit chat or tent flapping bothers you, it likely isn’t the site for you. Although it may be considered a quiet location by most, if you are sensitive and seeking some peace, go for the donkeys and cake instead.

Mobility Accessibility (caveat: I do not have mobility issues myself so this is from the point of view of an able bodied person trying to provide accessibility information): No specific accessible toilet/shower seen.
The site is flat, some pitches are close to facilities and all are not far.
Food available for breakfast and lunch on days cafe is open.
Terrain is predominantly mowed grass. There is a narrow gravel path in front of the binary facilities and leading into the cafe but there is an entrance to the cafe from the grass too. There is a narrow sloped gravel path to reception but you can also walk around via the road and path to get to reception.
The binary gendered facilities do not have steps.
The washing up is under cover and quite a tight space in front of the sink.
The drinking water tap is over a square shower tray so may be a stretch for some.

N'a pas aimé There were 2 person prices for tents but I didn't see any for vans. As a solo camper, I would have preferred a slightly lower price but chose to stay as it was a helpful location for attending an event in Helston.

Not aware of anywhere to access from site, doesn’t mean there wasn’t but it was accessed via small country roads, so likely not a site to pitch and go out and about without a vehicle (or bicycle).

A aimé Lovely family, really accommodating and the facilities are top notch and clean; not to mention the picturesque view. The campsite is situatiated near a lot of the amenities as well as tourist places from hidden gems to major tourist destinations such as St. Ives. Perfect for families, especially for toddlers. Highly recommend this campsite :)

A aimé This is absolutely the best campsite I've ever been to! The staff are all so friendly, very accommodating to us arriving late (thanks to traffic) and so kind to our kids. I loved that Dawn remembered their names, considering she must meet so many different people every day. The donkeys were very friendly too, our youngest particularly enjoyed them.
The facilities were clean and in good condition, the site was nice and peaceful, perfectly located for us to explore the local area. We'll definitely be back again soon! The narrow country lane leading to the farm was a bit tricky to navigate, but not too bad for us in our little car.

Itinéraire

Please note the entrance gate is slightly tight at 9 feet wide – it is wide enough for caravans but if you are towing please swing in wide to line up. Many satnavs will take you along very narrow lanes; to avoid this, it's best to travel from the A394 (from either Falmouth or Helston), take the turning towards Trevenen Bal and follow the route from there.

Attractions à proximité

Cornwall holidays must surely all include extensive exploration of the amazing coastline – and you’ll be well placed to do that from Roselidden House. Top spots on the Lizard Peninsula like Kynance Cove and Kennack Sands are about half an hour’s drive away (and linked by spectacular coast path walks), or you could head to the likes of Porthleven (15 minutes’ drive), Praa Sands (20 minutes) or Poldhu (20 minutes). Other spots to seek out along the coast might include St Michael’s Mount (25 minutes), Trebah Garden (25 minutes) or – up on the north coast – St Ives (35 minutes) for its excellent mix of art galleries and gorgeous beaches. Although the coast draws much of the glory, there’s much to see and do inland as well. Perhaps you’d like to have a nostalgic journey on the heritage trains of the Helston Railway (10 minutes) or spend some time meeting the residents of the Cornish Seal Sanctuary (15 minutes)?
