Tucked away in the middle of an East Sussex farm and surrounded by woods, the log cabins at Ashdown Forest Riding Centre make a fabulous place to stay whether you're planning to ride horses or not (although if you do want to, it's handy to know that there's a 30% discount for cabin guests – just contact the site to arrange outings once you've booked). Each cabin is constructed from wood and has a spacious deck overlooking the spectacular rural surroundings as well as a peaceful lake. Wildlife is abundant, and you may well get to spot badgers, foxes, deer and birds of prey. On site all is as sustainable as possible: basic power is provided by solar panels, water is collected in filtered rainwater tanks and each cabin has a logburner to keep things warm and cosy. Each also has an adjoining compost toilet, a simple shower and an outside barbecue area. Furniture inside these cute little microlodges is simple and comfy; they're kitted out with wooden rocking chairs, cosy patterned carpets and futon sofa beds Pick up supplies in Crowborough (10 minutes’ drive), which has major supermarkets as well as coffee shops and pubs. There are lots of cosy country pubs round and about the area if you fancy exploring further afield. Please do note that the cabins are not suitable for people with mobility problems or for children under 10 years of age. No cars are allowed nearby, and wet weather can turn the area quite muddy so wellies are a must. Bring a torch too.

Bungalow Galini

A aimé Beautiful setting with forest and lake views. Inquisitive horses add to the charm of this rustic cabin. The cabin has essential amenities including lighting, wood burner, showers, pull out sofa bed, and a compost loo all in good order. If you're looking to disconnect from city life, you can't do much better than this. We loved our stay and look forward to coming back. The location is great with local pubs, walks, or just staying at the cabin and paddling around the lake.

Beautiful location for star gazing and camp fire at night.

Also I loved that the cabin doesn't have electricity, really helps you connect with nature.

A aimé If you want to get away from the fast pace of modern life and go back to basics this is the perfect location.
The accommodation has everything to need minus electricity (i took a car battery and an inverter to bypass this problem), it does have solar panels for lighting which worked the whole 5 days i was there.
Also the owner allowed us to freeze cool blocks and recharge the battery in the office.
The cabin has a well stocked carp lake and if horses are your thing you can take advantage of the on site riding school.
All the staff were friendly and helpful.
We really enjoyed our stay.

Attractions à proximité

The log cabins are located on a farm alongside the Ashdown Forest Riding Centre, so off-road horse riding is available (with a guest discount) for everybody, from complete beginners to advanced riders. There are plenty of riding trails through peaceful Ashdown Forest. You can also set off on walks in the forest straight from base camp. You’ll discover 6,500 acres of heathland with Sussex views, plus woodland for hiking and bird-watching. The Ashdown Forest Centre (10 minutes’ drive) provides information about the woodland and all its walks as well as highlighting its long association with Winnie-the-Pooh. For fans of A.A. Milne’s books, Pooh Corner is in Hartfield village (also 10 minutes) on the edge of the forest. There’s lots to see and do by car as well. Wakehurst (25 minutes) has trails through landscaped gardens (particularly pretty in autumn), while the Georgian-era colonnaded walkways of Royal Tunbridge Wells (20 minutes) offer indie shops and restaurants. Brighton (45 minutes) is known for its ornate Royal Pavilion, the antique shops in The Lanes, and the amusement park on the Palace Pier.
