If the key components of your break in the Peak District National Park are a) easy access to walks, and b) easy access to a good post-walk pint, then you’ll probably be most pleased with the location of Yew Tree Farm Touring. This Derbyshire touring site is in Wetton, opposite the village car park, which functions as the start point for several walking routes. That means that once you’ve parked your van, you can simply set out on foot to get to Thor’s Cave, meander along the Manifold Way or find various other ways to soak up some of the scenery. If you don’t mind a little bit of a drive, the likes of Dovedale and the Heights of Abraham can be on the schedule too. Wherever you end up (even if it’s Alton Towers, which is also nearby), you’ll be able to finish the day with a well-earned drink at the local pub, which is just a couple of minutes’ walk from the site. The village also has a tea room that’s open at weekends if a piece of cake and a cuppa is more your style. The site opens up its refreshment trailer during summer weekends (from 10am to 5pm) to sell drinks and locally sourced Jersey ice cream. For dinner, you may want to bring along a barbecue and load it up with supplies from shops in Ashbourne (20 minutes’ drive) instead. Pitches are set up in a five-acre field, so there’s plenty of space for everyone to spread out and have a bit of peace. There's a shower and toilet block on site, with outdoor washing-up facilities and a hot-water dog wash, as well as a chemical toilet disposal point.

N'a pas aimé Very rural. Nothing bad but was a good drive away from nearby shops
Local pub is very expensive for food. Again not campsites problem but maybe the camp site could operate longer hours on the snack van

A aimé Was a nice site with friendly staff. Plenty of space in the pitch and very quiet area.

N'a pas aimé The showers didn’t drain properly so when someone showered the whole toilet block was flooded. It also probably needs a bigger toilet block for the amount of people staying there.

A aimé It is a quiet & peaceful location. Pitches were a decent size.
At the weekends there is a hot food and drinks available from the pop cafe & coffee shop right next door.
Decent washing up set up outside the toilet & shower block. Clean facilities. There is drinking water tap.
There is wifi available but service is very patchy.
Decent pub that serves food in walking distance and in walking distance to Thors Cave.

N'a pas aimé There is no lighting except at the toilet block.
There are two toilets, two sinks and two showers in the ladies and in the gents which wasn’t really enough for a full field of campers.

A aimé Facilities were sound and cleaned regularly. Even free WiFi was decent.
Close to Thors cave and manifold tail. Had a lovely stay and hike.

A aimé Location is fantastic, minutes from stunning scenery and so many different routes to walk that it’s never crowded. generously spaced out pitches. A pub 5 minutes walk away and 2 fabulous vans on site serving food and drink at weekends. The owners couldn’t be more helpful.

Make sure your walking shoes are in good shape before your stay here, because you’ll most likely be doing a fair amount of touring on foot. In some cases, you can even set off directly on foot – perhaps heading off to Thor’s Cave (20 minutes’ walk) or picking up the Manifold Way (25 minutes) for an easygoing wander along a former railway line. Other top picks nearby for a walk include Dovedale (15 minutes’ drive), famed for its stepping stones, and the historic Arbor Low Stone Circle and Gib Hill Barrow (20 minutes). There’s also a huge expanse of parkland to explore at the Chatsworth estate (40 minutes) once you’ve visited the house, the farmyard and the adventure playgrounds. For different days out nearby, head off to see the animals at Peak Wildlife Park (20 minutes), zoom along all the thrill rides at Alton Towers (25 minutes) or see the scenery from above on the cable car at Heights of Abraham (35 minutes).
