Billingford Lakes and Country Park

A aimé Lovely quiet campsite. Excellent playground. Close to Dereham. Nature walks were fantastic and perfect for getting little feet to go on a walk (collecting stamps was a big hit).

A aimé This site is so peaceful, (just not for 2 hours on a Friday night, bike meet but all respectful and left by 8pm) we was alone part of our stay! The walks are beautiful, the bailiff and fellow fishermen helpful of this novice mum trying to teach her sons! the children really enjoyed the games laid out by car park and added lil treasures on the walls to play with… WiFi available but doesn’t pick up on campsite, but has signal. clean and friendly

A aimé I liked the fact that the campsite was quiet and loved the waking round the lakes some Amazing views

N'a pas aimé We didn’t like the fact there was a lot of sharp stones about on the campsite and when we deflated our tent and packed it away it had a hole in the bottom of the floor of the tent so we had to use our puncture repair kit. It was only our second time of using the brand new tent and now that’s happened so very disheartened. The camp site is fine if you have a campervan or caravan but not ideal for tents as they have really stoney gravel plots to park your car but this just goes all in the grass.

We’re very sorry to hear that the bottom of your new tent was damaged during your stay. We completely understand how disappointing this must have been, particularly as it was only the second time you had used it.

Our site is ideally suited to self-contained campervans and caravans, although we do welcome tents. The gravelled sections are provided for parking vehicles beside the grass pitches, but we appreciate that loose stones can sometimes spread onto the surrounding ground. We will review the pitch and parking areas and remove any larger or sharper stones where possible.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Your comments will help us make improvements for guests staying in tents in the future.

A aimé Beautiful walks around the lakes and good nature trail for children.
Children loved the park and all the play activities - archery, swing ball etc.
Site was lovely and peaceful.
Good central location to see wider activities in Norfolk.
Workers at the cafe were very polite and helpful.

N'a pas aimé Pitches narrow if it was busy. We were lucky that we managed to get on an end pitch so had plenty of space to the side of our awning, but if we had to park in between 2 other caravans we would have struggled with our large awning and would have had no privacy between our awning and the next caravan.
Fishing prices are a little expensive, particularly if you are paying for children as well. We would expect to be a little cheaper if you were staying on the site, even though it is a slightly reduced price when you stay it was still quite expensive compared to other sites we've been to.

We appreciate your comments regarding the pitch sizes and fishing prices. Our pitches can vary in size, so we always recommend letting us know when booking if you have a particularly large awning, and we will do our best to allocate a suitable pitch where availability allows.

We understand your concerns about the fishing costs. Guests staying on-site already receive a reduced fishing rate, but we will certainly take your feedback into consideration when reviewing our pricing.

A aimé The welcome, the quietness and the great walks through the lakes. They are being honest when saying it would help to be self sufficient but for me the toilets were ok and the showers looked fine, although didn’t use them. Food was great especially the full breakfasts. Pub walkable just, or a 2 min drive.

We do currently have seats located at various points around the site, including along the walks and beside the lakes. However, we appreciate that additional seating would be helpful, particularly for guests who need to rest and enjoy the views. We will look at adding a couple more benches over the winter.

A aimé Peaceful, good dog walks but unfortunately only on a lead. A good choice of pitches for our three days stay as we were the only ones there! This would be a very popular site if only they addressed the facilities issues......

N'a pas aimé I know they state that they cannot install a new toilet block because of a nearby historical landmark (whatever that is!) but I have stayed on numerous sites that have brilliant, portable portacabins that have amazing warm shower rooms each complete with a toilet and sink. All the pitches are serviced with water, drainage and electricity supplied and this is all that is needed for a portacabin. If they were to supply this then the site would be very popular. The Elsan is a good hike away and you have to carry the cassette as it is impossible to wheel it along on the rough surface. Won't be returning unless this is sorted. Saw no one connected to the site during our stay.

As Billingford Lakes is a working fishery with livestock and wildlife around the site, dogs must remain on leads for everyone’s safety. Unfortunately, the planning restrictions affecting the site also apply to portable toilet and shower facilities, although we continue to explore suitable options.

The Elsan disposal point is located halfway down the main drive and guests are welcome to drive directly to it, so there is no need to carry or wheel cassettes over the rough ground. Our staff are available at the Lakeside Café during opening hours, and the site bailiff is also available should guests need any assistance.

We’re sorry the facilities didn’t meet your expectations, we are suited to self contained caravan/motorhomes as detailed in our information but we really do appreciate your comments and take them all on board.

N'a pas aimé The pitch was excessively covered in thistles which made setting up the tent a bit painful and kids kept standing on them. Toilet and shower block is a long walk from the pitch. Only two showers and you can only use one at a time because as soon as the other was turned on it went cold, even mid shower. Toilets were without toilet paper and quite grim by the end of the weekend. Didn't receive a welcome email which apparently had the number to phone to open the gate (gates shut 7pm - 7am) phoned the contact number but wasn't given the number and was just told its in the email, explained i didnt have one and essentially was stuck in but they wouldnt give the number, in the end had to ask another camper to phone the gate for us. All in all a lovely weekend at a really lovely country park but the camping seems like a new addition and the details arnt quite right yet.

All customers are emailed a welcome letter via email I can confirm I sent one to yourself on the email the booking was made under 5/08/2025 with a PDF attached of the welcome letter. we now have welcome letters with all information available at reception which is also our catering bus for campers.

We welcome all feedback and will look at the showers not working when both on. We’re sorry to hear that you found the distance a long way from the pitch, there are also 2 toilets near he reception area which are open 24hrs for campers use during your stay.

We wanted to take a moment to explain that our campsite is located next to a protected ancient monument, and due to strict archaeological regulations, we are not permitted to dig or construct permanent infrastructure—such as toilet blocks—within certain areas of the site. Preserving this historical land is something we take seriously, and it does affect where facilities can be placed.
