A wonderful friendly site. Facilitalies, swimming lakes and a marvellous open pitch field to set up camp.

Great location for a wild camp and swim. No rules on pitching up just where you want in a big field.
Friendly owner nothing too much trouble. Swimming in the lakes was amazing highly recommend.

Spacious field, lots of room between tents. Beautiful mixed tree line, bats, captain Jack. Lakes to swim. Relaxing, rejuvenating. A truly magical place.

Shower facilities were awful. Sign saying they were being refurbished in July but doesn’t look like anything has started yet & we are 3rd wk into August.
Ran out of toilet paper & hand cleanser on more than 1 occasion in gents & ladies.
Bins overflowing on the meadow site where the pitches are.

Lovely site, Clean and tidy, Loads of space, just found a spot on arrival.
Cafe looked nice although unfortunately closed on Mondays so we didn’t go.

Toilets/ water(that we could find) were quite a long way from camping field.

Bathrooms a bit basic

Camping grounds, lakes, log burners, star gazing with hardly any light pollution. Saw some shooting stars.
Wildlife.

1 of the 2 showers was grim, the male toilet was out of order, the cafe didn’t serve any food on a Sunday at 3pm. There seems to be a race track nearby or a drag strip as loud engines racing could be heard a few times on our trip even at 3am. Quite a trek to the toilets so we brought our own. Didn’t really see any staff.

The field camping is pretty basic, but camping among the trees was idyllic and the fire pits were really welcome. The toilet block had everything you needed and was cleaned regularly. The swimming lakes are fantastic, and the whole of the site is beautiful. The kids especially loved the fiendly site jackdaw :-)

The refuse bins were over-full when we left and there didn’t seem to be recycling facilities which is a shame. This could just be a York City Council failing, but should really be addressed.

The field, the big skies , the location close enough to cycle to York, the spacious field but most of all the swimming lakes !! Plus a bonus tame jackdaw called captain Jack. The cafe looks fab too but we weren’t there at the right time sadly

The field was too wet to drive into in my heavy electric van as it had rained so much recently but it wasn’t too far to carry the stuff.The shower head was a little droopy -and could do with a bin next to the wash up area

I chose the site for a stop over because it is close to York. Had a lovely stay. Pleasantly surprised by swimming ponds, a totally unexpected delight! Good flat field for pitching tent. Basic facilities were fine for short stay. Walk into York is beautiful, across fields along woodland path and following ings/ river Bank, an interesting way to arrive in the city.
