Loved the picturesque location, peace, space and especially the swimming.

The toilets weren't great.

Large campsite and good facilities. Lovely wild swimming areas and felt really comfortable/safe.

Could do with an extra shower as only 1 was open when we stayed.

What a beautiful place! Nice big field to park up in with no bother, quiet and peaceful, with the most wonderful swimming lakes to walk around and take a dip in. A great price. I’ll definitely be back to swim among the water lilies!

Cafe wasn’t open Monday and Tuesday, which is when I was there- it looked lovely!
Phone signal is patchy but if you expect this, it’s not really a problem.

Couldn’t find a toilet waste disposal point or grey waste . I did ask staff but was told there wasn’t one. Fine for a couple of nights but noticed other people emptying grey waste directly on to ground.

The best campsite which I ever been.

The site is beautiful, a real tranquil haven. It wasn't busy when we stayed which was nice (although more people pitched up over the few days and why on earth everyone insists on camping so close to other people when there is a massive field available is beyond me!). There are picnic benches and fire pits are provided which is a nice touch (wood is available on site) and it's a 5 mile walk into York city centre so it's a great location. It's a really peaceful site and the scenery is absolutely beautiful, you properly feel like you are going back to nature. "Jack" is interesting entertainment, I can't imagine that you wouldn't meet him if you stay. He's very amusing, especially when he lands on someone's head without warning! He can be a bit mischievous however and loves to try and pull earrings out of ears given half the chance! He also pecked my daughter's face at one point so whilst he is fun treat him with caution!

The site is fantastic and we would definitely come back, the things below wouldn't stop that (the 4.5 hour drive to you might but you can't change that!) but there are a few things which could be improved.
The toilets are fine, clean and tidy and were adequate for when we were there but I can't imagine it would be the same if the site was busy as there are only 3 ladies toilets. The toilet roll and soap were running perilously low (!) in the toilet for the last 24 hours of our stay - I'd seen the cleaners there but they obviously didn't replenish the supplies. There are two showers though one of these says that it isn't to be used when the cafe is open, something to do with the electrics, and the one remaining shower definitely wouldn't be enough for the whole site at busy times. That aside, the showers and clean and functional. The facilities block is a bit of a walk from the camping, probably 3/4 minutes depending on where you are in the field. Not an issue when it is dry but more of a problem when the weather is crappy or the ground is wet. Wouldn't be great if you were trekking to the toilets all the time with small children. You could do with more hot water for washing up, the tap only ran hot for about 30 seconds.
There is a cafe on site though it wasn't open at all while we were there, I believe it is only open from Thursday to Sunday which we weren't aware of in advance.
The lakes are beautiful but pricey for a swim if you're already camping at £7 for an adult and £5 for a child. Feels a bit much if you're already paying for camping.

Relaxed and friendly site, loved the fire pits and picnic benches but most of all the swimming.
