Little Canvas Escape

Left your bikes at home? No problem – rent cycles at Little Canvas Escape and follow bike paths all around Ameland, from the sand dunes edging the North Sea to the dike on the Wadden Sea (15 minutes’ bike ride) coastline. Due to the (almost) ever-present wind, cycling can sometimes be a bit of an effort, so rent an e-bike or electric scooter and take the effort out of pedalling (you are on holiday, after all). Prefer to do your adventuring on foot? Stroll along the beach to the landmark red-and-white striped Bornrif Lighthouse (about two hours' walk) and see the whole island from its lookout deck. Learn about the island in World War II at the Bunkermuseum Ameland (about two and a half hours' walk), or dodge the history altogether and head for the dinosaur skeletons and aquarium at Natuurcentrum Ameland (10 minutes) if the kids are getting restless. More strenuous activity needed? Wear everyone out on the rope courses and climbing walls at Outdoor Ameland (20 minutes).
