Campfire by the coast, anyone? Make your way to Mwnt Camping and make it a reality – this rural site is less than a mile from the Ceredigion coast, and it’s a place that encourages guests to make the most of their outdoor time by starting up a campfire (and you can tell they’re serious, as they’ve installed a firepit on each pitch and can sell you logs and kindling…) Come along for a break here and you’ll be staying at a small eco-friendly site that’s all about getting back to nature on meadow pitches in peaceful rural surroundings. Minimal lighting means that dark starry skies can be expected – and you’ll often get spectacular sunsets around here too. It’s all kept nicely peaceful by allowing cars in the parking area only, and not in the pitching areas. The folk here have made efforts to keep the site’s environmental impact to a minimum, but you’ll still have access to plenty of handy facilities including both traditional and compost toilets, hot showers, a washing-up area, charging facilities and a shared fridge and freezer. There’s also a cosy barn where you can hang out if the weather isn’t as friendly as hoped. You’ll share the site with a flock of ducks and chickens, and there is also a pond which is a haven for plants and other wildlife. The chickens lay organic eggs, and the team also grows organic veg that guests can use for salads or barbecue fodder. Any other bits you need can be picked up at the shops in Cardigan (10 minutes’ drive), which also has a collection of places to eat and drink.

Me gustó Location is stunning. Spacious pitches, very quiet and open site but a great degree of due to the good spacing between campers. Whole site is well maintained and tidy. Composting loos were a new experience but very easy to get the hang of and no smell! The beach nearby is a bit of a trek on foot but manageable, there is a car park if you’re bringing a paddleboard or other heavier items. The owners provided easy to read maps, with illustrations, if you want to go to the beach on foot. The owners are friendly and approachable, and we felt very welcome.

Me gustó Really great spaces and will look forward to seeing it when the landscaping has all grown up. Facilities were excellent, nice hot showers and loved the green credentials of this place. A very quiet night, hosts were keen to know we had found everything and all was well. Location is fabulous for Mwnt Beach and Cardigan, really felt very rural.

Me gustó Such a lovely campsite! The owners were super friendly and helpful. Loved the individually marked out pitches. My children enjoyed the chickens and ducks and their little tour of the polytunnel! Had s lovely walk to the beach too! Excellent snd very clean facilities too. Would definitely recommend.

Me gustó Booked in by error but a nice mistake, quiet location and away from shopping amenities so bring supplies. Friendly greeting and rustic site, great place to get away from the overly clinical sites where you can't be one with nature.
Nice we have a fire pit to use and lovely break away. Stayed for 2 nights with campervan and short drive to local beaches. A good 30+ min walk to Mwnt beach and need to be good on your feet, not suitable to buggies unless you follow the road.

Watching the ducks on the small lake and like the smell of nature, and if you like quirky, this is the place to stay. Remember this is next to a working farm.

No me gustó Found the noise with working farm noise at end of day from cows but did quieten down when dusk feel.

You’ll want to start (quite possibly immediately upon arrival) with a walk to Mwnt beach, about 20 minutes away on foot. The sandy stretch here is nicely sheltered for swimming, paddleboarding and canoeing – and you can often spot dolphins while you’re sitting on the beach or taking a walk on the Ceredigion Coast Path. If you’d like to up your chances of a close-up audience with the marine mammals, head to New Quay (half an hour’s drive) to join a wildlife-spotting boat trip. For more insights into the local nature, pay a visit to the Welsh Wildlife Centre (20 minutes) – perhaps stopping at Cilgerran Castle (15 minutes) for a sniff of Welsh history at a medieval fortress too. Back to the beach? There are lots more lovely spots to put on your to-visit list around here, including Poppit Sands (15 minutes), Penbryn (20 minutes) and Llangrannog (25 minutes).
