Macdonald's Farm Touring and Camping is a small family-run park among Cornish countryside and hills, well placed for exploring this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty: it’s set back from the county's rugged coastline, half a mile from spectacular Porthcothan Bay on the north Cornish coast between Padstow and Newquay, and is award-winning too. This is the place for you if you fancy sleeping under the Cornish stars, eating top-notch local food in the farm garden (open at specific times for breakfast, lunch and dinner during high season, but closed on Mondays), riding ponies and meeting friendly animals (alpacas and rabbits live on site) – perhaps followed by a drink or two from the site's Sundowner Bar (also shut on Mondays). Your booking entitles you to exclusive access to the garden, animals, playground and activities, plus the bar and pop-up food nights. Spacious pitches are set among four small bays on grass at the top of a valley, on a gentle slope, and have excellent far-reaching views. Site amenities include free showers and toilets, disabled facilities, washing-up facilities, a laundry room and baby changing.

Lovely farm with alpacas and chickens and baby goats and rabbits!

No me gustó Toilet facilities but confusing and limited it was very quiet when we were there but would imagine in busy times may be high demand.

No me gustó Sadly for us we were in line with the dog field which allowed the wind to batter our tent really heavily.
So bad we had to abandon our stay after 2 days. Absolutely gutted

Me gustó Campsite over all excellent, this was our third time staying and we absolutely loved it there the first two times this time I was very disappointed

No me gustó Toilets not cleaned and no toilet roll in them I understand it is a busy campsite but this is no excuse

Me gustó The accommodation is out of this world ! So peaceful and everything you need !

It’s lovely having the llamas outside and the hot tub and setting just adds to it!

The bar/ refreshment area was lovely and all the staff are incredible

All the animals on site are a lovely touch and its very family orientated

No me gustó We had arranged parking but on the Friday night our parking was taken by some people at a yoga session ! The parking is part of the accommodation so it was a little bit of an inconvenience but .. the staff sorted it very well!

Also on our last day we were having a quite chilled afternoon when the owner and some of his guests approached the accommodation and opened the door !! Our dog went crazy ha … and all he could say was “he didn’t think it was booked” .. kind of out on edge a little and made us think he had no idea who was staying on his site …

Don’t boom thinking you can use the hot tub .. we tried every night and spent extra on logs but it never got over tepid !

Casa vacacional The Potting Barn

Me gustó This place is stunning. A great location close to all the bays like Mawgan Porth, Watergate and Porthcothan. The interior is stunning and cosy. It was really clean and the private garden and parking space was a lovely touch. Great shower and storage was good considering it is small. The outdoor shed was a nice addition for the wetsuits and water shoes. Opposite the park and farm animals. A 1 minute walk to the Smoke and Fire eatery. Just amazing

Me gustó Lovely site park amazing for kids. Massive plus having the restaurant and bar

No me gustó Shower toilet facilities really poor. Poorly organised and not the cleanest. Like port a cabins from inside and the family disabled shower no room for clothes and put towels not family friendly. The path to get to the showers wasn’t disabled friendly.

Me gustó Location is lovely. Clean and tidy.

No me gustó I would say the site is aimed more for tents. The entrance is a bit tight for caravans! Not enough showers! Food is great but a bit over priced!

Me gustó We loved the site very family friendly the kids loved the park!! Pitches were a decent size, great location bus stopped just outside of needed.
We loved the live music in the bar area and the baby’s toys area!!

No me gustó Food onsite was very expensive and the service was very slow one morning I waited over 40 minutes for granola and toast!
Not enough toilets and showers we had to wait quite a lot for availability

Me gustó Beautiful site, spacious pitches and great location.
Restaurant and cafe was great with good variety of food and drinks.
Added touches of being able to use board games area for little ones to play with a large choice of toys.
Spacious outdoor area with football net and good play area/park for kids.
Staff were friendly and helpful.
The food however is over priced and could do with being reduced a little but was good quality.
The toilets and showers are clean and it has the added extra of 4 family shower rooms, although doesn’t seem a lot of toilets and showers for the size of the site we never had to queue.
Great location, and the local bus stops right outside the campsite which runs between Newquay and Padstow.

Lugares de interés

The nearest beach, Porthcothan, is a small bay popular with families and an excellent spot for bathing and surfing. It’s made up of a narrow inlet with cliffs, sand dunes, rockpools and a little stream running down to the sea all combine to make it an idyllic place for children. The South West Coast Path is easily accessed from here too, for hikes to Newquay eight and a half miles to the south. By road, it’s five and a half miles from the farm to Padstow; a bus running from Padstow to Newquay stops outside the site if you’d rather leave the car behind. Other outdoor activities close by include surfing at Watergate Bay within 15 minutes’ drive or zipping around St Eval Kart Circuit within five minutes’ drive. For food, try the local pub with its spectacular views over Porthcothan Bay, or the Rick Stein seafood restaurant at Padstow. Heading towards the south coast, the Eden Project is 35 minutes’ drive away.
