A small and peaceful site in the Shropshire countryside a mile from the Welsh border, Murphy’s Meadow Camping is in a splendid rural patch with a woodfired hot tub available to hire and for the kids, plenty of space, a small zipwire, swing and trampoline. When it comes to walks and bicycle rides, there’s a nice situation around here with walks from the site and the Offa's Dyke path one kilometre away. There is also a small stream (likely to be a fan favourite with dogs and kids), with a footpath crossing 100 metres from the site. While it feels very rural, there’s a lot of entertainment on hand in Oswestry and bigger towns and cities such as Shrewsbury and Chester, 40 minutes’ drive away. Closer to the site, there’s a country pub with tasty eats under five minutes’ walk away. Groups aren’t accepted here, just couples and families, so you’re permitted to have an off-ground barbecue or firepit as long as there’s quiet after 10pm – you’ll be able to hire one from the site and top it up with wood and charcoal sold on site (a nice pairing with the starry skies, clouds allowing). The site also runs an ice pack service and solar-powered phone charging point. There are composting toilets and cold mains water here but showers are available at the nearby leisure centre for a small cost. The site has tried to keep their set-up environmentally friendly, so they hope guests will help to minimise rubbish and use the recycling and composting bins.
