If golf is high up on your R+R agenda, drive five minutes' up the road to some of the lushest links around at RAF Coningsby Golf Club. Though owned by the military, this friendly club welcomes all players, whether you're new to the game or putt with military precision. Other outdoor pursuits like fishing at Bain Valley Fisheries (five minutes' drive) also come highly recommended. Fancy delving into the Lincolnshire of yesteryear? Tattershall Castle (five minutes) is a proper medieval fortress, complete with moat and towers. Boston (25 minutes) is another mightily historic spot – check out gorgeous old buildings like St. Botolph's Church and Maud Foster Mill or opt for the funky artefacts on show at the town's Bubblecar Museum. Bound for the beach? Skegness (40 minutes) is the nearest big resort, while wilder coastal spots like Gibraltar Point National Nature Reserve (45 minutes) are also within easy reach. Head slightly further afield to Donna Nook (about an hour) if you're keen to spot some of the grey seals that live in these waters.
