  • Peaceful, isolated site on a secluded Lancashire farm
  • A half-hour drive from Blackpool beach and Forest of Bowland
  • Simple grass pitches down a long farm track, 10 minutes from the M6
Oh to be on a peaceful, secluded spot in the lovely Lancashire countryside, with forests, the Lakes and big cities not far off… such is the atmosphere at Moss Rose Campsite, a relaxing site about 10 minutes’ drive from the M6 and half an hour north of Preston. This is a splendid spot for those who’d like a bit of peace and quiet, with reduced noise expected from 9pm to 10pm and quiet hours from 10pm to 8.30am. Pitches are on a simple grass field well away from any neighbours. You’ll have to travel down a long farm track to get here (it’s rather rough and bumpy, so take it slowly). The reward is a spacious and secluded stay on a small traditional family-run working farm with views out over fields of farm animals. (The owners describe it as ‘somewhat alike to The Darling Buds of May’, for those who remember such telly treats.) Because of those farm animals, dogs are welcome as long as they are well behaved and kept under control. Kids are also very welcome, and you’re able to set up barbecues for your evening meal (as long as you’re careful with them…) There’s a pub a couple of miles away if you fancy a pint or a bite to eat. Day trips around here might take you to the coast at Blackpool or Morecambe, inland to the Forest of Bowland or Lake District or for a bit of city action in Liverpool or Manchester, both of which are a little over an hour’s drive away (also making this site also a good place for city dwellers who fancy a quick escape without a long drive).

What customers say

Family-run spot with spacious, private pitches in a lovely rural setting. Owners are super friendly and helpful! Clean facilities, well-stocked honesty shop. Great for families, with a play area and animal feeding. Some say loos and showers are a bit basic, but upgrades are coming. Peaceful vibe and nature get a big thumbs up.

Deep sleep sensory bell tent

Liked Extremely friendly and welcoming family-run campsite. Joe went above and beyond to help our kids have a great time, including letting them cuddle the chicks.

The Aurora bell tent was fantastic - really very well blacked-out so we could sleep late in the mornings. It was sturdy and waterproof amid the thunderstorms and torrential rains we endured!

Having a fridge, freezer, microwave, coffee machine and Honesty shack available was a great help.

Disliked Would have been helpful to have a slightly larger facilities block with perhaps an extra shower cubicle and a second hand washing sink/vanity area in the ladies.

Non-electric grass campervan pitch

Liked What a cracking little site, a gem of a place. A credit to Joe, Kelly and John.
Only 10 mins drive from Garstang 40 mins from Blackpool. Pretty easy to find in the middle of nowhere down some country roads. It's perfect to come and relax , best of all, very little mobile service (3 network )so zero distractions. You can just about get a signal near the loos.. this does not bother us at all, we had to talk to each other instead of doom scrolling!
Has nice and clean facilities, toilets showers and a toilet disposal drain thing , they clearly care about the customers. They are tentative and really are passionate about the site.

Nice little honesty box with a few items in, feed for the sheep, fresh coffee (coffee pods ) fresh eggs, it's just perfect . That side of it is ran by their young son to teach him the value of money and to start earning a few quid! Cracking idea.
Go and feed the sheep, food near the toilets, drop a couple of quid in!
Loads of bats at night, so good to see, if you like bats I guess?? We did!! That little walk round the perimeter, very very good.
The pitches are big, loads of room, and far enough apart that you do not hear the neighbours.
We live about an hour away, and we will absolutely be back.
Nicki and Mick

Disliked Nothing.. shame we had to go home. Can't wait to come back

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Wild back to nature set up with old “heath robinson” facilities. Set in the middle of nowhere, very peaceful. So bring all you need.

Disliked Bunny Road on way out. Bl**dy dangerous I nearly fell off my bike.

Local attractions

Before you get straight to your adventuring, there’s a farm shop and ice cream parlour called Wallings Ice Cream (15 minutes' drive) that will make sure your tummy’s well prepared for all the action. For action, the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (half an hour) is just the place - have a pedal between rural villages, picking up farm produce as you go. The Lake District National Park (45 minutes) has plenty more trails or watersports for those looking to get a dip in. But what about those city days out also? The bright lights of Blackpool (half an hour) are hardly far away, and for more sightseeing, Manchester (an hour and 10 minutes) and Liverpool (an hour and 15 minutes) make for some great day trips. If you’re a fan of the busy buzz and action Lancaster (half an hour) has museums and a city park or Morecambe (half an hour) has a splendid seafront… but for more wildlife instead, head to the Wild Discovery animal park (half an hour).
