  • Peaceful rural site 20 minutes' drive from York
  • Half an hour's drive from North York Moors National Park
  • Easy access from A64 and close to bus stops for day trips
City break, rural rambles and seaside strolls all on your holiday game plan? Off to Yorkshire with you then, and a stay at Fox Hill Holiday Park, just outside the village of Claxton and within easy reach of all of the above, thanks to a rather handy location close to the A64. From here it’s a 20-minute drive south to the fab historic attractions of York, or around half an hour north to the North York Moors for hiking, biking, horse riding and steam train rides. Add in a day or two by the coast (an hour’s drive away) and refresh with a brew in one of the local tea rooms and you’ll start to have an idea why the locals fondly refer to their region as ‘God’s own county’. Fancy leaving the car behind for the day? There’s a bus stop very nearby for trips to York or to the market town of Malton, and a golf course within walking distance. The woods and fields all around are great places to stride forth too, for dogs (and humanfolk) in need of walkies. No lengthy list of entertainment facilities here to distract from the chilled-out country vibe (this place thrives on peaceful times, not parties), but the essential amenities are all here and well-maintained: wifi access, a food shop and a smart modern toilet block with hot showers and accessible bathroom.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Clean showers and toilets.

Disliked: No courtesy call, regarding road closed to camping site. Would have helped! Also, no offer of help when changing wheel on caravan.

From the manager: Good afternoon,

We are glad you enjoyed the clean showers and toilets.

We are sorry that you were disappointed not to receive a call regarding the road closure, however you also did not show much courtesy when speaking to our female staff members upon arrival. Most of our customers find our staff friendly, helpful and extremely courteous. Our receptionist did her best to not only navigate you to the park but also welcome you. In turn, you put your hand in her face while stating that “you were not in the mood to talk” and blamed her for the road closure.
Our receptionist does not make a habit of closing roads in or around the park. This was the responsibility of the Water company. We spoke to the Water company responsible for the road closure, who stated that access signs should have been in place and they apologised for any inconveniences caused. However, we would like to point out that our cleaners, delivery drivers and other customers to the park were able to navigate here successfully with no problem.

In regards to your wheel change, you did not let anyone know you needed assistance and as such we were unable to help. Had you contacted reception or spoken to any staff member, we would have done our best to assist.
Many people who require assistance with general maintenance of their caravans join vehicle recovery groups, Reception has several numbers for this type of service available.

Finally, Your accommodation score. Accommodation is not provided by ourselves, as you were staying in your own touring caravan, hence the score of 5/10 is irrelevant to the Park.

Many Thanks and kind regards

Local attractions

A day trip to York is pretty much an essential – or, even better, several day trips. See the big sights (the minster, the timber-framed shops of the Shambles and the Jorvik Viking Centre), but also make time to visit the National Railway Museum, take a boat trip on the Ouse river and grab a cuppa and a fat rascal cake at the famed Betty’s tearoom. For a blast of sea air, head over to Bridlington, around an hour’s drive away, for a traditional British beach day out with promenade strolls, funfair rides and donkey rides – perhaps even a spot of paddling in the North Sea for the hardier types. Outdoorsy types should make a beeline for the North York Moors National Park, around half an hour away, for walking trails and traffic-free bike routes across one of the country’s largest expanses of heather moorland. Husky trekking, rafting and ziplining are among the other options for active souls; those who prefer a more leisurely pace may opt to see the landscape from the comfort of a heritage train ride.
