For those couples/travelling parties that frequently face disagreement over whose turn it is to be designated driver, there’s really only one sensible solution: bed down right there at the pub. Dozing off at the bar might be considered a little unseemly, so The Old Bush’s owners Matt and Karen have come up with a better solution and set up pitches in the garden area behind their rural Worcestershire pub. Thus guests can partake of dinners accompanied by a few local ales/ciders before strolling home (to a peaceful corner with drinking water, showers and 24-hour toilets) in just a couple of minutes – how civilised. In fact, the whole setup here is rather civilised: The Old Bush is a traditional country pub in the little village of Callow End, with food available at lunch and dinner times, plus a menu of mini meals for smaller guests. On warmer days the merriment spills out into the garden, where there’s a play area, an aviary and a little flock of chickens along with plenty of tables for open-air drinking, dining and admiring the views over the Malvern hills. Of course, one can’t sit around in the pub all day (well, maybe not every day, anyway…), so it’s worth noting that this is also a handy location for walks, horse riding, games of golf, fishing and days out in Worcester and Malvern (both 15 minutes away by car). Handily, if you do ‘accidentally’ sup one too many at lunchtime there’s a bus stop in the village so you can still get out and about.

Liked Good location for the Malvern Show. Good pub food and reasonably priced.

Disliked Only 2 toilets available - one had no toilet paper and no soap at all. You had to queue in the pub to check in. Couldn’t get a WiFi on the pitch.

From the manager: Hi Sharon, I checked you in myself and I am sorry that you felt that you had to queue to get checked in however there was only a short queue at the bar which is to be expected on a sunny Saturday afternoon. There are 4 toilets which are 24 hours, 2 in the toilet block and 2 in the shower block and then more in the pub when its open. Unfortunately running out of toilet paper and soap is something that happens and we do check this regularly. We have just checked the WIFI connection and it seems to be working fine. Sorry to hear that you wont be staying with us in future but most of these things could have been resolved if you had asked a member of staff rather than marking us down for fixable things.

Liked Pitches were well loaded, gravel based wjth grass surrounding. Fairly steep incline to pitches. Handy to have the pub there. Good food. There is a shop and cafe area where you can have a breakfast.

Disliked Possibly the non allocation of specific pitch could be an issue. It worked ok for us as it turned out.

Work up an appetite for that pub dinner and drinks with walks through grassland, heath and woods in the Malvern Hills Area of Outstanding Beauty (15 minutes’ drive).
