  • Cosy family-run and dog-friendly site in the Cotswolds
  • A 15-minute drive from Blenheim Palace; 25 minutes to Stow-on-the-Wold
  • Barbecues and firepits allowed; access to footpaths and bridleways
After a cosy spot somewhere in the Cotswolds? Historic houses, museums and market towns are out in full force around the cosy Cotswolds Camping in its Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty six miles from Chipping Norton… to be exact, this family-run site is 15 minutes' drive away from Blenheim Palace and within striking distance of many characteristic Cotswolds trails. At the same time, Oxfordshire is the other way and Oxford itself is just 15 minutes’ train journey away from Charlbury Station (five minutes’ drive). As for those of you with a soft spot for a hardcore shopping trip, you won’t be left in the lurch here, as Bicester Village has a shopping outlet 35 minutes’ drive away and Stratford-upon-Avon is 45 minutes’ drive away for handsome riverside scenes and independent shops. Now, how about those hiking shoes? Well, the site has access to fancy footpaths, bridleways and woodland walks, so you’ll be able to get right to the rambling. You might want to stop by the local village, Charlbury, on your way around the local area, as there are food shops, pubs, cafés and restaurants here, all within walking distance of the site. And don’t worry, you’ll be able to carry the good time onto the site, as barbecues and firepits are both permitted – the same for dogs. As for the facilities you’ll have on hand, these include a play area, shower, toilets and a dishwashing area to help you deal with any dirty pots and pans.

What customers say

Spacious, neat sites, friendly vibe, great for families & dogs. Clean ablutions, good kitchen & cafe. Excellent Cotswolds base, live music a plus. Some hot water/toilet snags at peak times, but most keen to return. Management promises upgrades.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Easy to find.
Close to towns.
Spacious pitches and very quiet during term time.
Toilet block clean.
Lovely park for children to play in.
Dog friendly.
Live music on site on a Saturday.

Disliked Toilets in top fields closed during week.
Cafe closed Monday - Wednesday
No one around on site - advertised as shop / reception being open and wasn’t open during our 4 night stay

From the manager: Glad you had a nice stay, there is only one warden on site so he's unable to be everywhere at once unfortunately. The shop does have instructions on how to gain access. In a nutshell just give the warden a call and he will open the shop or office if you need to gain access. We did trial the shop as an honesty shop but unfortunately it doesn't work. The cafe is always closed monday to wednesday.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (maximum 2-berth)

Liked Lovely weekend first time camping on my own lovely site very well kept flat pitch. Loos and showers not luxury but perfectly adequate and clean. Great onsite cafe/bar super friendly staff. Live music on Saturday night perfect after a day walking. Just one thing there are several small fields making it lovely and cosy.

Disliked Just one thing there are several small fields making it lovely and cosy but the one I was on backed onto the road even though there was a large thick hedge the traffic in the early morning did wake you up.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Lovely site in beautiful area of the country. Good facilities, cafe etc. Large pitches, plenty of space around van.

Disliked Toilets were very rundown, dirty and dreadful smell however I do note that they will be upgraded for next season so would not be put off from returning.

Gypsy caravan (two person, no pets)

Liked Nothing

Disliked Just dumped in the car park with two other gypsy caravans. It was just for me but you would struggle to be comfortable with two people.

Local attractions

Trail time? You might want to begin with the Roman Fosse Way, passing by the towns of Stow-on-the-Wold (25 minutes' drive) and Moreton-in-Marsh (25 minutes). Or from Lechlade-on-Thames (half an hour), perhaps you'll roll right on to the Thames Path, if you’re not drawn into the water with watersports such as canoeing. Characterful towns and villages are a Cotswolds staple and it shows… Burford (15 minutes) is boxed full of unusual shops, pubs and tea rooms, while in Witney (20 minutes), you’ve got classic entertainment courtesy of a multi-screen cinema, shops and leisure centre mixed in with markets and the historic Cogges Manor Farm. In Woodstock (15 minutes) there’s more history inside The Oxfordshire Museum. Like Chipping Norton (10 minutes), the place has a swimming pool, shops, pubs and tea rooms galore, to add to Chipping Norton’s theatre and cinema. Historic are many of the houses around here, and that includes the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Blenheim Palace (15 minutes), the Jacobean Chastleton House (20 minutes) and or the 18th-century Buscot Park (35 minutes). For more activities in the throw of it all, there’s Cotswold Wildlife Park & Gardens (25 minutes) and Bourton-on-the-Water’s equestrian centre, brewery and motoring museum (half an hour).
