  • Quiet and spacious site on the edge of the Peak District National Park
  • Ensuite pods each with kitchen, double bed and TV and DVD player
  • Eight miles from Gullivers Kingdom and 10 from Chatsworth House
Stake your claim for a prolonged stay at the spectacular Peak District pod place of Slate House Farm, a small countryside site set on a working farm nine miles from Chesterfield. Although small and never crowded, this lush site has proved rightly popular with guests, who wax lyrical about its vies, its setting, its facilities and its friendly vibe. The site has outstanding views over the Derbyshire countryside and is surrounded by ancient market towns, swathes of country estates and walking, cycling and mountain biking trails for intrepid adventurers. Anglers (fly and coarse) can cast off about a mile away; Matlock is within three and a half miles, and it's but a 20-minute drive from the farm to the heady sightseeing of the Heights of Abraham, where strong-minded sorts can bob about the landscape in a cable car. Slate House Farm is fably set for Peak District family days to suit all flavours too, with famed Chatsworth House within 10 miles and even more famed (to small sorts at least) Gulliver's Kingdom within eight. Alton Towers is just under an hour's drive away. The pods each have an ensuite bathroom, a small and well-equipped kitchen, double beds with mattresses, and a TV and DVD player. Barbecues and campfires are both allowed on site.

What customers say

Warm, kitted-out glamping pods in a peaceful spot with great views. Hosts are tops, accommodation spotless & comfy, with nice extras like fire pit marshmallows. Farm animals a hit, especially with kids. Cosy for four, but a fab country chill-out.

Camping pod

Liked It was really great, nice and peaceful even though it's a farm and there are animals like sheep, goats and pigs. Which weirdly enough didn't seem to disturb you. The pods are great and the farm is pretty central to quite alot of the different places you can visit.

Disliked Nothing

Thankyou for your review it was nice meeting you all. we are so happy you all enjoyed your stay and we met your son standards. Yes we agree the milk is loverly. It’s nice to hear you wasn’t woke up by the animals as they can be very noisy before breakfast.

Camping pod

Liked We’re a family of 6 and stayed in 2 pods for 2 nights. We absolutely loved it. Everything about Slate House Farm is just wonderful - it’s quiet, peaceful, and beautiful. The views from the pod are stunning. Toni and her family were unbelievably welcoming - spending time with us to explain about her animals and the farm. We all loved being able to get close to the animals & being able to feed them was a highlight. The play area with football goals and trampoline was a bonus for my 4 kids. The farm shop onsite was also a fab addition - and I must recommend the fresh milk and icecream, just delicious. The pods themselves were small and cosy- but have everything you need for a comfortable stay. We absolutely loved sitting round the fire pit on a night telling stories and eating toasted marshmallows. Honestly one of my favourite weekends away ever- I would 100% recommend and we will definitely be back. Thank you so much Toni

Camping pod

Liked Absolutely stunning location, easy to get to great staff on site, lovely clean cabin with everything you need to get you going

Disliked The only thing I will mention was water was a little brown but assuming with it being a farm it will be and shower loses pressure but really can’t complain

Camping pod

Liked Where do I even begin? This place truly deserves 11 out of 10 stars! ⭐ From the moment we arrived until the moment we left, everything was absolutely perfect. The glamping pod was spotless, cosy and equipped with everything we needed. The surroundings were peaceful and beautiful, and we loved meeting the sheep, pigs and horses. Our dogs had the best time too! The hosts were incredibly kind, welcoming and helpful. This is honestly one of the best places we've ever stayed, and we'll definitely be back. Thank you for making our stay so special! ❤️🐑🐴🐶

Camping pod

Liked Really good communication from the owner, lovely warm welcome. My daughter loved the farm animals. The space around the pods is great, for just a nice setting / view but also space to walk the dog and play around. Pod was well equipped and cosy, with nice touches. Great location for visiting Bakewell and Chatsworth.

Disliked Nothing really, got a bit warm and stuffy in the heat. Would have been great to have wifi, but were aware that it wasn't available

Camping pod

Liked I stayed in one of the pods with my 10-year-old daughter for a couple of nights. I only wish we'd booked a longer stay!
The pod is surprisingly spacious inside and much bigger than it looks from the outside. It's like a tiny house, with everything you could need: a kitchen, a comfortable bed,, sofa, TV, and even an en-suite bathroom with a toilet and shower. We loved the cosy, rustic feel, cleanness, and the super comfy bed.
Outside, there's a deck with plenty of space to enjoy breakfast, as well as a large picnic table and bench next to the pod.
The farm itself is wonderful, with some of the cutest, well-cared-for animals - even a rescued deer.
There's also a little farm shop on site, selling delicious local produce. We especially enjoyed the fresh milk from the vending machine outside. I'd highly recommend trying it, even if you don't usually drink much milk! It tastes so much better than shop - bought.
What really made our stay so special, though, was the wonderful couple who own the farm. They were incredibly kind, welcoming, and genuinely made us feel at home from the moment we arrived.
Thank you both for such a lovely stay. We can't wait to come back!

Local attractions

As well as Gulliver's Kingdom and Alton Towers (well, after Gulliver's Kingdom and Alton Towers), kids of a certain trainspotting disposition might like a puff around the National Tramway Museum, set in the period village of Crich Tramway Village. Trams are here to chuff along on, there are woodland walks and a nature trail, and indoors has exhibits on 100 years of tram history as well as the interactive displays of the award-winning Stephenson Discovery Centre. As long as you don't utter the words 'stately home' too soon, kids should also like a day at Chatsworth House, where there's a farmyard and zipwiring, and Bolsover Castle, (30 minutes), the spectacular 17th-century fort with regular kid-friendly events. Somewhat more grownup times can he had at Haddon Hall, also within 30 minutes. You must def meander around the small villages of the Peak District while here too, as each are famed for their own individual thing: have tarts at Bakewell (25 minutes), hone your footballing skills at Ashbourne (40 minutes) and see the spas of Buxton, 45 minutes away.
