Pitchup makes another commitment to sustainable travel during London Climate Action Week, where it was announced as the newest member of Travalyst.
Founded by Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, Travalyst is a coalition of some of the biggest names in travel and technology working to change the way we travel. Travalyst mobilises the travel industry to provide trusted information at scale to empower better customer decision-making and accelerate impact-led change.
Being part of the coalition will see Pitchup.com help shape future sustainability models by sharing its data and sector expertise. Travalyst’s goal is to align the industry behind the same approaches to sustainability data, creating consistency in place of the current patchwork of in-house calculators and third-party tools built on variable data and methodologies. So far, Travalyst has aligned its partners behind the same flight emissions model, resulting in emissions information showing in over 130 billion flight searches worldwide. Travalyst now seeks to replicate this in depth and scale of adoption for other areas of the industry, through the creation of a centralised ‘Data Hub’ for sustainability information, starting with accommodation.
Joining some of the biggest names in the travel and technology industry - including Booking.com, Skyscanner, Trip.com, TripAdvisor, and payment giant Visa - Pitchup.com’s addition marks a milestone for the coalition as it welcomes its first and only partner focused on outdoor accommodation.
With a focus on tents, touring, glamping units and off-grid stays, Pitchup.com brings a vital new take to sustainability discussions: one grounded in nature-based tourism and low-impact travel.
Dan Yates, Founder and Managing Director of Pitchup.com, commented: “We’ve built Pitchup.com around the idea that travel can tread more lightly - connecting people with nature while supporting local economies. Joining Travalyst is an opportunity not only to contribute data and insight from a fast-growing and underrepresented segment of the market, but to help shape sustainability standards that are accessible and meaningful for both travellers and providers. We’re proud to be part of a group working to make sustainability the industry default, not just a ‘nice to have’, especially as our own data shows a real growing interest in sustainable travel.”
Sally Davey, CEO of Travalyst, added: “We’re really excited to welcome Pitchup.com to the coalition. With a focus on low-impact accommodation and a strong connection to nature, Pitchup brings a valuable perspective and new lens to our work as we continue to grow our impact across the travel sector.”
We are excited to see where this work takes us, watch this space for updates!
