Well now, here’s a place whose name just does it all: Sheltered Nook on Tillamook Bay is indeed in a peaceful spot set slightly back from the Oregon coast (a sheltered nook, if you will) on the banks of, yup, Tillamook Bay. The shops and restaurants of Bay City are a five-minute drive to the north and Tillamook is 10 minutes to the south.
And there in the middle is a family-friendly park that’s in a fab spot for a fresh-air vacation. Kilchis Point Reserve is a minute’s easy stroll from base, there’s a beach about five minutes’ walk away for clamming and crabbing, and there are plenty more trails to follow within half an hour’s drive at BayOcean Peninsula Park and Cape Meares Lighthouse.
Don’t be afraid to bring a hound along on these strolls either… The family’s canine member is more than welcome hereabouts: there’s an outdoor pet bath with hot water for combatting muddy paw prints, and special dog towels for four-legged friends – not to mention lots of green space for when your pal gets the zoomies.
Human guests are well looked after too: guests get a complimentary breakfast basket every morning, a small shop in the office has board games, puzzles and local drinks and eats, and days can easily be passed staging tournaments of disc-golf, corn hole, tiki toss, spikeball and beersbee before settling in for a peaceful evening mingling around the fire ring or having a quiet one back in your tiny home’s private garden.

Local attractions
Off to the Oregon coast for a good few lungfuls of fresh air? Start in Kilchis Point Reserve, a minute’s walk from the site, for two and a half miles of walking/running trail. Once suitably warmed up, set forth for the wider spaces of BayOcean Peninsula Park (20 minutes’ drive), stroll out to Cape Meares Lighthouse (half an hour) for scenic sea views or head to the trails of Tillamook State Forest (15 minutes).
If you’re up for getting out on the water, sign up for a deep sea fishing trip from Garibaldi (five minutes) or take a kayaking trip from Tillamook (10 minutes). Sticking to dry land but without skipping the scenery are rides on the Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad, which trundles its way from Garibaldi to Rockaway Beach. Folk who are fascinated by all things with engines may also like to take in Tillamook Air Museum (15 minutes).
A little drink to finish your day? There’s a brewery down town in Tillamook, and some top wines to taste at Nehalem Bay Winery (25 minutes).
