Musick Creek Falls

- Nearly wild camping 15 minutes’ drive from Shaver Lake in California
- General Washington Tree and China Peak ski resort 45 minutes’ drive
- Private sites with waterfall views and outdoor activities available
There’s remote and then there’s really remote. It could be said that Musick Creek Falls is in the latter category – really remote and utterly spectacular too. Staying here puts you on the edge of the Sierra Nevada range in California, 15 minutes’ drive from Shaver Lake and with 40 acres of stunning and virtually untouched land to explore.
This is a magical spot for anyone looking for outdoor experiences from snow skiing, water skiing, hiking or fishing to rock climbing, mountain biking and stargazing – kayaks are free to use too. As well as being home to four awe-inspiring waterfalls and regular vibrant sunsets, Musick Creek Falls is also alive with wildflowers and cedar stands.
The road into the property is dirt and gravel, with a few potholes, so negotiate it carefully. There are garbage bins and a composting outhouse next to the shipping container, and decent cell phone reception throughout the property. The owners have spare tents, camping gear and blankets if you forget something.
Along with spectacular views, a few simple facilities at each site include firepits, gazebos and seating, otherwise you’re left very much to your own devices. Occasionally a shy timber rattlesnake might put in an appearance, and do be careful when wandering around at night; the terrain is steep and the rocks around the creek and waterfalls can get very slippery.
