- Well-maintained 55+ RV resort in Lake County, Florida
- A 10-minute drive from Leesburg; Walt Disney World Resort 50 minutes
- Two pools plus a pickleball court, yacht club and miniature golf
Lake County, Florida is pretty much just that: an expanse of green land carved up into all manner of shapes by a spectacular chain of ponds, pools and basins. Holiday RV Village, a 200-acre park near Leesburg catering to guests over 55, is right in the middle of all these watery locales and has a couple of its own…
With both a sizeable indoor and outdoor pool, you'll have plenty of chances to get a few lengths in (alternatively you can nab a spot in the jacuzzi for a soothing soak instead). There's also a miniature golf course, a dog-walking area and a pickleball court (for those of you not in the know, basically a blend of tennis and badminton).
There's also a lot to be said for just lying back, switching off and tuning in to the hum of the Florida wildlife that permeates the park: Holiday RV Village has plenty of trees around where birds can be heard rustling as well as access to peaceful riverside walks (you can also moor your boat here if you've arrived by water). For more aquatic antics outdoors, drive up to Leesburg to hire a boat and set out for tours of handsome Lake Harris.
The views on the lake are simply swell, but the shops, restaurants and bustling bars on Leesburg's main street should convince you to return to port in time for a dinner, drinks or a night out on the town.

Local attractions
If you're planning on sticking close to base, Leesburg (10 minutes' drive) deserves a proper look-in. In terms of green space, there's the Venetian Gardens, a spacious waterside park with a gazebo, ski beach, pool and plenty of picnic areas. Peeps with a predilection for the paranormal can also go on bloodcurdling guided ghost tours downtown, while Leesburg Animal Park is likely to go down a treat with animal fans.
Beyond the city limits there's more to get stuck into, including the Old Florida charm of Mount Dora (35 minutes) with its canal tours and village marketplace. Silver Springs State Park (an hour) is also well worth visiting, particularly if you're keen to set out on the hunt for gators, turtles, manatees and more.
Florida is probably best known for its beachgoer-friendly climate and zesty orange juice, but wine has been grown in the Sunshine State longer than anywhere else in the US. Try some for yourself at Whispering Oaks Winery (25 minutes), an artisanal vineyard where you can sample an all-natural, antioxidant blueberry variety.
