  • Peaceful adults-only touring pitches in a secluded Murcia location
  • A 35-minute drive to Lorca's museums; numerous hiking trails nearby
  • Part of a 40-acre fruit farm where guests can pick fresh produce
A quiet rural spot right on the Andalusia/Murcia border sounds like a pretty good place to chill out for a while, right? And even better when it’s a 40-acre fruit farm with stunning 360-degree views over the surrounding landscapes… That place is Frontera Camping, about 25 minutes’ drive from Puerto Lumbreras. This is an incredibly peaceful and secluded spot well away from urban areas, main roads and all other noisy trappings of modern life (although it does have a wifi connection to help you stay connected to the outside world… if you want to, that is…) Folk travelling in self-contained caravans and motorhomes are welcome to stay here (please note there are are no guest toilets or showers on site), with a variety of lovely space to choose from – you can park up close to the house to be near the owners, or set off for a more remote spot deeper into the farm’s land for a truly secluded stay. Dogs are welcome (as long as they get on with the resident dog, cats and horses) but it’s not a particularly suitable spot for kids so the pitches are available for adults only. Guests are welcome to take a stroll around the farm and pick any fruits that are in season – depending on when you come, you may be able to pluck fresh pomegranates, olives, quince, almonds or grapes (both red and white). Beyond that, there are lots of hiking/cycling trails to explore nearby; ask the owners to point you in the right direction.

Local attractions

A stay here is primarily about exploring the extraordinary landscapes that surround the farm, so come along armed with your bike and/or walking boots to make the most of it all. The farm owners will happily point you towards some of the area’s top trails or help you to find horse-riding outings. There’s also the option of seeing it all from above with a nearby paragliding school (40 minutes' drive). Another perk of being out in a properly remote spot is the fact that you're likely to get some fabulous stargazing in the dark skies. If you’d like to learn a bit more about what you're looking at, sort out a tour of the Observatorio Astronómico de Cabezo de la Jara (half an hour) and take a look through a telescope. Being away from urban life may well be your main reason for coming here, but if you feel the need to reconnect with people you can head into Lorca (35 minutes) to visit Museo Paso Blanco, Museo Azul de la Semana Santa and Museo Arqueológico de Lorca as well as exploring the various churches and artisans’ shops.
