- Less than 200 metres from Playa de Vargas beach
- Near the scuba diving and wildlife of El Cabrón Marine Reserve
- Café-restaurant overlooking the sea, barbecues and playground
How would you like to overlook the sea, from a café and restaurant vantage point a short amble from a stretch of golden Spanish beach? Such is the state of affairs at Camping Playa de Vargas in the Canary Islands.
Camping Playa de Vargas is on Gran Canaria at Las Palmas, a Canary Islands region famed for its beaches (and for its weather: Las Palmas was once named by a climatology boffin as having the best climate on the entire planet). The site is less than 200 metres from Vargas beach, a 25-minute drive from the Gran Canaria town of Agüimes, and 20 minutes from the sublime scuba diving of El Cabrón Marine Reserve.
As well as the café-restaurant, there's a small supermarket on site for folk who prefer to cook by their pitch or at the barbecue facilities. Guests can also buy camping gas and hire cooking griddles and gas lanterns.
Also on site are basketball courts, a playground, an internet room, and storage space for windsurfing and kitesurfing boards. Wifi is available in public areas for an extra fee.

Local attractions
Sand basking, scuba diving, surfing and wildlife watching are a teeny pick of what you can get up to around Las Palmas and Gran Canaria, on the beaches, in its waters and inland at its nature areas.
The site is a short stroll from a protected natural area, full of wildlife, native trees and walking trails; several paths from here lead to some of the region's old salt mines. A hydrotherapy centre, shops and night entertainment are also within a few minutes' walk.
The wind and waves of Vargas beach make it a popular place for kitesurfers, windsurfers and surfers all year round, and paddleboarding, kayaking, canoeing and diving during the calmer summer months. Four beaches belong to Las Palmas city to the north: Las Canteras, the longest at over three kilometres, Las Alcaravaneras, a top spot for sailing, canoeing and yachting, La Laja, a favourite of Gran Canaria surfers, and Confital, also a surfing hotspot and the site of the qualifiers for the professional world surfing championship every year.
To the south of Gran Canaria and 25 minutes' drive from the site is the tourist town of Maspalomas, the most popular destination in the Canary Islands and part of the Natural Reserve of the Dunes of Maspalomas.
