  • Sheltered glamping site 10 minutes’ walk from Valdevaqueros beach
  • Next to Parque Natural del Estrecho: Tarifa 15 minutes' drive
  • Outdoor pool, restaurant, supermarket, sports area and playground
A location next to a natural park is a good thing for a holiday – and so is a location about 10 minutes’ walk from a beach. So when you hear that Kampaoh Paloma has both of those all rolled into one Andalusia site, you know you’re onto something good… And it gets even better, because the beach in question is the fabulous Valdevaqueros beach, a wide beach with soft sands flanked by a shifting sand dune. It’s a popular spot for kitesurfing and windsurfing, with several beach bars and restaurants also on hand for more chilled-out times (sunset drinks, anyone?) The natural park is a corker too – the Parque Natural del Estrecho is a big open space with gorgeous views and great birdwatching, and activity centres close by can organise various things like horse riding, quad biking and watersports to help you explore both inland and along the coast. Set a little way back from the coast, sheltered from the east wind and with lots of shade, Kampaoh Paloma makes a great spot in which to unwind between outings. To keep life nice and easy, each of the rental tents here has beds and other furnishings, along with bed linen, towels, a cool box and kitchen equipment so you can afford to travel light. Facilities on site include both leisure options – a swimming pool, a playground and sports areas – and essentials including a restaurant, a mini market and bathrooms with toilets and showers.

Local attractions

Want to see that huge shifting sand dune? It’s about a 15-minute walk from the site to Duna De Valdevaqueros – and once you’ve scrambled around in the sand there for a while, you can continue on for another 15 minutes or so to reach Punta Paloma beach, a secluded and sheltered stretch for some peaceful sunbathing. Active sorts will have plenty to choose from in this area – within 10 minutes’ walk you can get to a kitesurfing and windsurfing centre, a horse riding stables or an adventure sports centre offering things like sand yachting, quad biking and kayaking. There are a couple of hiking routes walkable from the site as well, or you could set off to the trails of Parque Natural Los Alcornocales (10 minutes' drive). Town time might take you along the coast to the seafood restaurants of Zahara de los Atunes (25 minutes), to the castle and church of Barbate (40 minutes), or to Tarifa (15 minutes), where you can see Roman ruins and Moorish architecture or board a ferry to Morocco.
