Primitive grass and earth campsite

Liked I was looking for an experience that felt “wild” for a three year old, while being a bound away from car and ablutions for “emergencies”. We had a great night sleeping in bivvi bags by the dam with the full moon out, listening to the jackals. Tinus and Bernie were great at accommodating us and for a three year old to be able to see the various animals was the icing on the cake. We will definitely be back.

Powered grass and earth campsite

Liked What a chilled experience! A big thank you to the lovely hosts and staff for making us feel welcomed even sharing a few laughs and meaningful conversations. Our camping spot was gorgeous and we slept like babies. The property is big enough for short hikes (we even flew our kites!). Like terminator - we will be back! Thank you CradleLicious Farm Camp Team!!

Disliked The bathroom/toilet was a bit too far, but we were assured that they are building these closer to the campsite.

Local attractions

First stop the Cradle of Humankind? Start your visit at Maropeng (10 minutes’ drive), the official visitor centre where you can learn about human fossils discovered in the limestone caves and take an interactive journey through time. Combine your trip with a tour of NIROX Sculpture Park (also 10 minutes), where sculptures of the human form are scattered over landscaped gardens. Your best chance of spotting Big Five animals locally is at Bothongo Rhino and Lion Nature Reserve (15 minutes), where lions, giraffes and zebras roam free; take the self-drive safari to spot them all, and then go underground to see the glistening stalagmites and stalactites in Bothongo Wondercave (also 15 minutes). Further afield, you can stroll across monumental Hartbeespoort Dam (45 minutes) for glorious mountain views, take a drive around the reservoir or go boating and fishing on the water. Nearby is the Monkey Sanctuary, Hartbeespoort (40 minutes), safe haven for rescue lemurs and monkeys.
