Just 10 minutes' drive from Ljubljana Airport, Mini Camp Ranč Luže is a particularly handy spot for guests whose schedule involves an early-morning flight or a late-evening arrival. It's not just about that here though, because this Upper Carniola location also makes an excellent base for a longer break spent exploring the various attractions of this scenic part of Slovenia. Whether you're just passing through or sticking around for a little longer, there's a warm welcome at this family-run site in the little village of Luže, about 15 minutes’ drive from Kranj. It’s part of a small and peaceful ranch surrounded by gorgeous views of the nearby hills and dramatic mountains, and it lends itself rather well to a chilled-out countryside retreat (with dogs welcome, if you'd like to bring yours). Pitches here are shaded by trees and nicely spacious, so you'll be able to set up your awning, gazebo and outdoor table if you like. There's a barbecue area provided, so pick up supplies in Kranj and get set for a bit of outdoor cooking. You can also cook at the kitchen area and serve up at the tables on the covered terrace – also a good place to chat to your fellow guests to pick up top tips for touring the area. As a small site, facilities here aren’t extensive, but there's a good-sized play area (handily located by the covered dining area so supervising parents have somewhere to hang out) and you’ll have access to a fridge, wifi and a bathroom block with toilets and showers (including accessible facilities).

Disliked Die sanitären Anlagen sind etwas knapp bemessen. Da kann es vorkommen, dass man etwas warten muss.

Liked We stayed at this campsite for one night, and it was definitely an unforgettable experience. Check-in was quick and easy, and the lady who helped us with our requests and showed us around the campsite was very kind and helpful. We also loved the horses nearby and the beautiful views, which we will certainly never forget. A lovely place with a truly memorable atmosphere!

Liked Der Campingplatz ist total süß und quasi direkt in der Natur. Nachts ist es dort ruhig und dunkel. Es ist überhaupt nicht überlaufen, sondern eher ein kleiner familiärer Betrieb. Die Familie ist sehr bemüht, hat alles sehr liebevoll aufgebaut und unterstützt bei Fragen. Es gibt eine Küche mit sämtlichen Utensilien, wie Geschirr, Töpfe, Putzmittel.. wir haben uns sehr wohlgefühlt.

Disliked La proximité des tentes et le manque de sanitaires (mais la propriétaire vient de démarrer et a été un peu bousculée par le succès). Il faudrait prendre moins de monde pour le moment.

Local attractions

This is a fantastic spot for touring the north and west of Slovenia, as it's within easy reach of heaps of great attractions and activities. Those hills, mountains and forests you've seen from the site are full of enticing options, for starters: hiking, cycling, horse riding and climbing are all on the menu. For more of those outdoor activities, head to Bled (half an hour’s drive) for watersports, lake swims or a circular walk around Lake Bled. Just north of Bled at Soteska Vintgar (half an hour) you can follow a boardwalk trail through a gorge with stunning turquoise waters; more challenging hikes can be found near Lake Bohinj or in Triglav National Park (both an hour). Town time is equally lovely in this area – perhaps take a stroll around Kranj (15 minutes), taking a tour of the tunnels as well as admiring the Old Town architecture and Kokra River canyon, or spend the day in Ljubljana (half an hour) – surely one of Europe's prettiest capitals and with an easily walkable city centre.
