  • Peaceful site on a Vojvodin farm with views over open plains
  • A 20-minute drive from the centre of Novi Sad
  • Home-made breakfasts available, and farm produce in the site shop
A splendid spot for a Serbian countryside break, and a nifty location for nipping into Novi Sad – it really is quite the fab mix at Farma 47. A 20-minute drive north of Serbia’s second city, this farm site is in a quiet corner of the Vojvodin region, with views out over green plains and a relaxed rural vibe. Your fellow residents on site are likely to include the sheep that reside here all year round, and the chickens that contribute to your hols by laying eggs to give you a tasty fresh breakfast. There’s also a great spread of quince trees, whose fruit goes into homemade jams and brandies. Keen to sample such wares? Order breakfast from the folk on site or pick up produce at the farm shop. Bottle of brandy in hand is a good way to be if you're heading over to the sociable covered terrace area, where there’s space for guests to hang out by the fire and chat over a drink or few. If you need some dinner to stop you getting too squiffy, there's an outdoor barbecue area with two grills – again with rather fine views to admire while you eat. Choose city or country for your days out; either way, panic not if you come home a tad mucky, as the site is kitted out with showers and a laundry room with washing machine and tumble dryer to get your good self back to a groomed state.

Local attractions

Mountains and monasteries await for those who’ve set their sights on some country wanderings. Fruška Gora (half an hour's drive) is the big peak around here, and the natural park around it is a fab place for a hike. Trails are signposted (look out for the heart shapes on the trees) and several swing by one of the park’s 16 lakes so you can have a swim. The area’s peaceful vibe clearly lends itself to contemplation, if the number of monasteries is anything to go by – Velika Remeta (45 minutes), Vrdnik (50 minutes) Jazak (55 minutes) and the stunning riverside Petkovica (an hour and 15 minutes) are all worth a visit if you’d like to get a bit of that for yourself. At least one day out in Novi Sad (20 minutes) should certainly be on the schedule too. If you only do one thing, climb up to the mighty Petrovaradin Fortress, which peers down from a 40-metre volcanic cliff, for Danube views and a tour of the creepy tunnels. With more time (a much better idea), visit the city’s art galleries, take a stroll on Fisherman’s Island and spend some time people-watching from the streetside cafés.
