What customers say

Great rural setting, spacious pitches with shade & views. Clean facilities, great showers & pool. Friendly staff & good restaurant. Some steep/tricky pitches for large rigs, a few dated amenities, but most want to return.

Liked We loved this site, very welcome hosts. Stunning garden where you can have a lovely glass of local wine for €1 surrounded by kiwis hanging down, lots of gorgeous planting. A fabulous swimming pool very clean as are all amenities.

Liked Lovely campsite , great remote location, good size pitches friendly staff and WiFi
Good area within the site to walk the dog , pool a bonus and showers etc good , fantastic clear sky nights , supermarkets like continental and Lidl’s only 12 minutes away

Disliked Just a couple of minor issues, appreciate it was September but restaurant was only open some nights and then only a limited number of diners , not an issue normally but had not restocked with food , bar snack was generous but again not every night , an email before arrival advising would have helped as a lovely peaceful site , one other item was the lack of soap in dispensers

Liked Lovely peaceful location, with large spacious pitches nestled between fruit and olive trees. Plenty of shade for hot summer. Clean facilities and friendly staff.
Restaurant, menu of day available, with lovely fresh bread on order. Well kept pool for refreshing dip. Kids enjoyed trampoline too.

Disliked Some slopes though is on hill side. For us access was very difficult as had caravan car with bikes, restricting turning access. Sadly this would result in us not returning despite lovely site. We had to un hitch and remove bikes twice to get out !!
Washing up area could be improved with larger sinks to wash pots. Some hand soaps for washing after using toilets would have been appreciated.

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Quiet, uncrowded rural site with clean facilities. However it's quite a large site and being so empty must be poor for the business and according to an advertisement on the noticeboard, the site is up for sale.

Disliked When we were there the swimming pool was closed (most disappointing as the weather was really hot), the restaurant was closed and we appeared to be the only people who used the bar. With so few customers it would appear that it is uneconomic to open facilities - but this information was only emailed the night before arrival.

Local attractions

As the site lies at the gateway to the Serra da Estrela Natural Park, hiking and cycling trails aplenty are within easy reach to keep you occupied for weeks should you so wish. The natural park is home to Portugal's biggest mountain range (called the Serra da Estrela, oddly enough) and is the country's biggest conservation area, covering about 1,000 square kilometres: look out for badgers, wildcats, otters and wall lizards if off on a nature spotting trip. A vast vineyard with tastings and extensive tours is about 18 kilometres from the site, run by affable vintner Manuel. The max number on each tour is 10, so if you're seriously thirsting for a trip to a Portuguese vineyard, let the Camping Quinta das Cegonhas know your intentions on arrival and they can book for you. A short drive from the park will take you to Lago Comprida; hike away from the lake for around four kilometres and you'll find another lake with a manmade concrete and granite structure in it – the Dam of Conchos – that looks (and acts) a bit like a plughole, transporting the lake's overflow down through a 1519-metre tunnel to Lago Comprida: it's quite a sight and well worth the walk. Historic towns and villages such as Melo, Folgosinho, Gouveia and Linhares are all within easy reach.
