It's free, quick and easy!
- Watersports haven on a New Zealand site adjacent to Pakiri Beach
- Goat Island’s marine reserve within 20 minutes’ drive
- Kayaks, beach fishing and surfing; play area and TV room on site
There’s quite the watersports mecca next to Pakiri Beach Holiday Park in New Zealand’s good-looking north. Set up over nine kilometres of pretty pristine white sand (nice and soft for a snooze, if you please) and an hour and 20 minutes’ drive from Auckland, you’ll be primed to play in the surf at Pakiri Beach however you please.
With estuary views from the site and a salty breeze in the air, it may feel as though the sea’s constantly calling your name. Perhaps you’ll want to take a kayak or surfboard out to sea or simply hover over the surface with a snorkel and try to keep up with the pace of the little fishies…
One thing’s for sure, this family-friendly site is likely to entice you out into the open. Try out swimming, surfing, beach fishing and kayaking from the site. Later on, relax, rejuvenate and unwind in your new nest in a peaceful rural landscape. Families will be pleased to find a play area on site as well as a TV room where the kids can properly chill out.
Fancying a bite to eat by the sea? Handily, there are several beachside cafés within 10 minutes’ drive of the site. For more shops and more restaurants, there are several places within 15 minutes’ drive or it’s 20 minutes’ drive to Leigh. Don’t forget to grab some bits for the grill, as barbecues are provided back on site.

Local attractions
The seaside is out in full force in this area, as you’ll soon see from the white sands of Omaha Beach (35 minutes’ drive), the surf-friendly remote cove at Te Arai Point (45 minutes) or the cool coastal walks and coves at Pākiri Regional Park (15 minutes).
For places with a little more buzz from the human side of life, Leigh (20 minutes) is one such spot with a fishing pier, slightly busier beaches and restaurants (seafood will be on the menu here, that’s for sure). Meanwhile, the vineyard and art gallery take the limelight over at Sculptureum (half an hour).
Back to wildlife if that’s what gets you really wistful: Ti Point Reptile Park (20 minutes) will let you spy on reptile life and Te Ārai Regional Park (45 minutes) has biodiverse dunes and beaches.
More water-based, Goat Island (20 minutes) has a marine reserve where snorkelling and diving are popular pastimes, as you might expect. It’s a similar story at Tāwharanui Regional Park (45 minutes), where there’s another marine reserve fit for snorkelling and diving or an ecology trail on dry land.
