  • On the outskirts of Delft, easily accessible by public transport
  • Restaurant and shop with organic bakery
  • Bike hire, guided cycle tours, city walking tours, pool and solarium
Town days, city days, cycling days and swimming days… the artful setting of Vakantiepark Delftse Hout has access to them all. Town and city days for starters: this peaceful place is on the outskirts of the city of Delft in the western Netherlands, 15 minutes' walk from the city centre and easily accessible by public transport. For more Dutch sightseeing, The Hague is 10 kilometres away, Rotterdam 15 and you can reach the many attractions of Amsterdam within 50 – or you could have a goud-a time at the Gouda Cheese Museum within about half an hour's drive… For cycling and swimming days, a lake for dips, fishing and sailing is next to the site; the Delftse Hout arranges weekly guided evening cycle rides in high season; bikes can be hired at reception and maps are available at reception showing the local routes. Urban walking tours are arranged in summer too, taking you around the sights and attractions of the canal-ringed and pottery city of Delft. Vakantiepark Delftse Hout is a good-sized and scenic site, welcoming families to its spacious pitches surrounded by greenery and woodland. It has good facilities for kids, including summer activities, a well-equipped playground with swings, slides and climbing frame, and a separate and colourful children's area in the clean and modern washrooms. Go-karts are available to rent if the offspring want to speed things up a notch. Older kids and teens will probably approve of the table tennis area, set in a covered spot with nicely graffitied walls, while for more leisure, all ages can have dips in the pool or a sunbathing session alongside. Also on site is a restaurant serving local and international dishes, and a grocery shop with an organic bakery. The amenity blocks have unlimited hot water as well as specially-designed facilities for disabled guests. Please note that while dogs are allowed, you can only bring one per pitch.

Power optional grass tent, travel trailer or trailer tent campsite

Liked: The Sanitary building - Showers, toilets, laundry, washing up etc. was absolutely brilliant. Super clean, functional, well designed with family showers etc. The shop, though small, had the basics and the staff were very helpful. The site was easy to navigate and we felt safe the whole time. The play area had plenty to keep young kids occupied. The location - really close to Delft Centre which is great, easy to get to train station and bus station for onward travel and loads of cafes and restaurants, as well as only being 30 minutes from the Ferry terminal.

Disliked: It is a bit noisy at night due to proximity of major road, and the pool is very small and not great for small children.

Disliked: We had 1gb of WiFi a day which should have been enough to do emails but it disappeared within 24 hours and we had not downloaded anything . We are on holiday so it wasn’t a trauma 😀

Local attractions

The old city of Delft is best known for its fine blue pottery, a trade dating back in this part of South Holland to the mid-16th century (if you want to acquire your own anywhere in the world, check for the Delfts Blauw or Delft Blue name painted on the bottom of ceramic pieces). The city's streets and canal banks also house plenty of other attractions to see, including the Vermeer Centre, the Science Centre and the historic almshouses. Hire a bike on site to pedal around one or more of the several cycle paths in the area, such as to the farming villages of the Green Heart region; the old church in the village of 't Woudt; the towns of Pijnacker-Nootdorp or Zoetermeer; along the Vliet Canal to The Hague; or along the Schie river towards Rotterdam. Stick around close to the site for a day at the nature and recreation area next door, where there's a petting zoo, water playground and a beach next to the big recreational lake for dips, fishing and sailing. Within day trip distance is another beach at Scheveningen (25 minutes' drive), the models of Madurodam miniature city (20 minutes), the UNESCO-listed site of the Kinderdijk windmills (45 minutes) and the tasty treats of the Gouda Cheese Museum, 35 minutes away; be sure to amble around the famed cheese market of this last too.
