- Modern holiday park on the island of Texel, in the Wadden Sea
- A 10-minute drive to the beach; De Slufter reserve 15 minutes
- Play area, table tennis, bike hire and breakfast deliveries on site
Whether you’re into birdwatching, cycling or just relaxing on a sandy beach, you ought to make a beeline for the Dutch island of Texel, in the Wadden Sea – it's a place that scores highly on all those aspects. After a 20-minute ferry ride from Den Helder on the mainland, it’s a 15-minute drive to EuroParcs Texel, a family-friendly holiday park.
Stylish bungalows here have well-equipped kitchens, bright living areas and modern shower rooms. While you unpack, the kids can keep themselves busy in the playground or with games of table tennis and football. After that, it’s time to hit the beach. The coast is a 10-minute drive away, but many guests prefer to hire a bike from reception and cycle through the sand dunes of the Duinen van Texel National Park to get there in about 15 minutes.
The water here is shallow (if sometimes a tad on the chilly side – though that doesn’t seem to faze kids), and therefore pretty safe for swimming. On breezy days, you might want to have a go at wind- or kitesurfing with one of the several watersports outfits on the beach. The coastal area is dotted with pavilions serving food and drinks – chips and mayonnaise seem to taste even better when accompanied by sweeping sea views.
Back on site, the friendly reception staff are available for any queries you might have and can supply additional bits and pieces such as high chairs and towels. They also provide a breakfast delivery service: just be sure to order your croissants and baguettes the day before.

Local attractions
The colourful collection of artefacts at the Shipwreck and Beachcombing Museum Flora (10 minutes’ drive) includes lifesavers, beach balls, liquor bottles and plenty more besides – all collected after they washed up on the island's beaches. There's also an open-air area displaying stranded ships.
De Slufter (15 minutes), one of the island’s 40 nature reserves, is home to large populations of wading birds and gulls. In the summer months, this area of creeks directly linked to the North Sea becomes a vast meadow of lavender. Another popular destination for birdwatching is the Waalenburg polder (10 minutes).
Are you ready to climb the 118-step spiral staircase inside the 19th-century Lighthouse Texel (20 minutes)? You might be out of breath when you get to the top – and not just because of the exertion, but also for the spectacular views of the island, with its sandy beaches, polders and forests.
