Based in Messina just outside Terme, Salicamp is a big and well-equipped holiday village on Sicily's northern coast, with direct access to a beach and views out to the Aeolian Islands. There's easy access from here to services and shops less than a kilometre away and the closest motorway junction within seven.
The beach beside the holiday village is serviced, with deckchairs and umbrellas, a beach volleyball court, a five-a-side football pitch with lighting for kickabouts day and night – and a bar for drinkies afterwards. Guests can use the kit already at the beach, bring their own, or stroll along to the free beach close by.
As a family site, Salicamp is well set up for leisurely hours from morning to night: there's a pool for kids as well as for grownups, a summer kids' club, ping pong and table tennis, and regular entertainment and events in the evenings. Free wifi is to hand for contented researching of your options off site, or you could take it very easy and ask the site team to book you one of the many available local excursions.
Set aside plenty of time for the Marrakech restaurant too, which has a roomy garden overlooking the pool, a menu of Mediterranean, seafood and Sicilian dishes, and wood-fired pizzas, daily specials and a fine selection of wines from the island and further afield.

Salicamp is in spectacular surrounds, centred on the gulf from Cape Milazzo to the Tindari promontory and facing the Aeolian Islands: beaches, boating and watery sports are all your top picks.
The site is also excellently placed for tourist trips around Messina, such as to the Roman villa at Terme within a few minutes and the historical remains of Milazzo within 10, and the ancient site of Tindari or the Roman villa of Patti, both 35 minutes' drive away. Also 35 minutes away, the medieval village of Castroreale is a must for buffs of architecture and history.
Take the ferry to the Aeolian Islands from Milazzo (or arrange a day trip on site): these lush lands and volcanic isles are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a definite Sicily must-see.
