The site’s in the Porto Conte Regional Natural Park, where there are 60 kilometres of sandy beaches, soaring cliffs and scenic bays to roam around. A diving school 10 minutes’ drive from base puts adventures below the waves within easy reach, and anyone not keen on diving can stick to the private beach instead, which the site team says is a top spot for snorkelling. A must-visit on this pretty coastline is Grotto di Nettuno 15 minutes away at Capo Caccia – it’s the largest underwater cave complex in the Mediterranean and there are plenty of spectacular sights within, so be sure to get in the car or clamber aboard a boat for a tour. History buffs will find amore in this part of Sardinia – it’s a haven for ancient remains, with Roman ruins and Nuraghe culture sites within easy reach. The remains of a Bronze age Nuragic settlement are 10 minutes away and the Anghelu Ruju necropolis is 15 minutes from base, and it’s just a five-minute drive to the Roman Villa and Nuragic Village of Saint Imbenia. In need of a city day? The nearest is Alghero, 25 minutes away, where guests can sign up for dolphin-watching boat trips, see fish at the aquarium, dig around in the past at the museums, or simply wander the Old Town.
