Area Camper Bagnolo del Salento

- No-frills Puglia wild camping in olive groves at Bagnolo del Salento
- A 20-minute drive to Salento beaches, Otranto and Santa Cesarea Terme
- Family-friendly site just five minutes’ walk to shops and bars
Dreaming of wild camping among Puglia's olive groves and fruit orchards? Now’s your chance to do just that, for at Area Camper Bagnolo del Salento, on a farm on the outskirts of the peaceful village of Bagnolo del Salento, the grass and earth pitches are sheltered by trees and have that peaceful rural vibe you seek (plus a few useful extras).
Facilities at this simple, family-friendly spot run to composting toilets and a basic parent-and-baby washroom; electric hook-ups are an option as well. The friendly site owners are on hand to make sure your stay is comfortable and welcoming, and they're more than happy to offer sightseeing advice and tips on places to eat or shop. They’ll also rent out bikes so you can explore the local area along quiet rural lanes.
Most things you need can be found in Bagnolo del Salento (five minutes’ walk), a sleepy village of twisty lanes with a baroque-era church on its central piazza, a couple of shops selling essentials and numerous alfresco terraces.
The sandy Adriatic beaches on the Salento coastline, the coastal town of Otranto and the rocky swimming coves of Santa Cesarea Terme are all within 20 minutes’ drive of the campsite.

Local attractions
Beach babies have loads of choice when it comes to days out at the coast. The Adriatic beaches of Baia dei Turchi have safe swimming in clear seas, while Baia Mulino d’Acqua is backed by cliffs pockmarked with caves where you can snorkel or explore by canoe. Head for Spiaggia Alimini if you’re after a lively time in the sun, as it’s known for its beach bars and nightclubs. All are within 20 minutes' drive.
The exclusive town of Santa Cesarea Terme (20 minutes) has smart villas and palazzos overlooking coastal cliffs riddled with underground caverns and hot springs. Visit for a leisurely day at the spa (open May until November) or hang out with a glamorous crowd in cafés along the seafront walkway.
Otranto (15 minutes) is another beguiling seaside town where highlights include the cute Cattedrale di Santa Maria Annunziata (don’t miss the tiled ceiling in the nave) and the mighty Castello Aragonese, open for tours of its ramparts, chambers and church with faded frescoes. Kids with you? Spend time on the family-friendly Spiaggetta del Molo beach or have a meander along Lungomare degli Eroi promenade to treat everyone to ice creams or pizza.
