Local attractions

Get active, get out exploring or just laze around the lake and its spectacular vistas: Concept Village Piccola Gardiola is well placed for the lot. Local town San Felice del Benaco is reachable within a few minutes by car, on Lake Garda's western shore. It's also a serenely short drive from the site to lovely Manerba or Manerba del Garda, founded a couple of thousand years ago in honour of the Roman goddess Minerva, and now part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its prehistoric stilt house settlements. Take a boat trip from Manerba to get out onto the lake to explore its lushly scenic islands: much recommended. Also recommended in the region are trips to ancient Brescia, 45 minutes away, and bar crawls and nightclubbing in Desenzano del Garda (25 minutes). Visit the pretty hillside estate of Vittoriale degli italiani too, once home to writer Gabriele d'Annunzio – and where there's a poetically snarky message to Mussolini inscribed in one of the famed waiting rooms of the Prioria. Hailed as a must-see by the site team is the old town of Salò, about 15 minutes' drive to the north west. Its famed promenade is one you most certainly must stroll down – gelato in hand, natch…
