Local attractions

As well as being within easy reach of several watersports spots and golf courses, there are also lots of cycling and mountain bike trails around the lake and the surrounding hills, plus paragliding from Mount Pizzoccolo and Monte Baldo and canyoning over on the north side of the lake. There's the UNESCO-listed museum complex of Santa Giulia in the province's capital, Brescia, and the Mille Miglia vintage auto museum dedicated to Brescia’s legendary car race, Mille Miglia, both a short drive away. Manerba del Garda, set among olive groves and vineyards, is dominated by a Roman fortress that looks out over the south-west side of the lake and has a 12-kilometre beach with lots of lakeside walking trails with spectacular vistas. The Valtenesi area – with the towns of Moniga del Garda, San Felice del Benaco, Puegnago sul Garda, Polpenazze del Garda and Soiano del Lago – is known for its vineyards and olive oil production, and you can pick up local produce at the weekly markets held at the towns of Desenzano del Garda and Salò and the small city of Lazise. The Rocca di Manerba Nature Park is well worth a visit for its archeological sites and two walking trails, and you can take a ride on the Malcesine-Monte Baldo Cableway, on the eastern shore of the lake, for aerial views of Garda and the surrounding countryside.
