  • Waterside site outside Desenzano, with stunning Lake Garda views
  • Sirmione, Peschiera del Garda and Gardaland within a half-hour drive
  • Open-air pool, scenic sun terrace, dog park and lakeside restaurant
Coming along to Lake Garda to get a good gander at the lake? Bag a break at Desenzano Camping Village and it’ll all be laid out there in front of you: this splendid Lombardy park is right on the shores of Italy’s largest lake, two kilometres from Desenzano del Garda. And what a spot it is, with gorgeous views out over the lake and lots of space from which to admire them. Settle in on the lakeside terrace to take it all in from the comfort of a sun lounger (with a parasol to keep the rays away if you’re getting a tad overheated) or pick a table at the restaurant/bar/pizzeria for drinks and meals with the most viewsome backdrop. Work up an appetite for your dinner and drinks with a bit of time in the open-air pool or a game of something out on the sports field; if you’d rather someone else did all the exercise for you, accompany the bambini to the playground or take your four-legged pal over to the dog park to put them through their paces on the agility course. Or you could of course elect to build up a hunger with some local outings: top Garda locations like Sirmione, Peschiera del Garda and Gardaland are all within a half-hour drive, mountain hikes are on the cards in the Orobie Bergamasche Park and day trips to Verona, Brescia and Bergamo are all distinctly doable.

Local attractions

Can’t get enough of the Lake Garda views? (Quite understandable…) Once you’ve dawdled around in Desenzano del Garda (checking out its fortress, Roman villa and archaeology museum), head over to pretty Peschiera del Garda (20 minutes’ drive) to look out for frescoes, floral displays and fortified walls. There’s also a good watersports setup over here, and a dog-friendly beach where pooches can paddle. Another splendid change of scenery comes from a trip to Sirmione (25 minutes’ drive), to wander through its labyrinth of little streets before heading out to the fairytale-like castle by the water. If that gives you a taste for more urban strolls, try out Brescia (35 minutes), Verona (40 minutes) and the Old Town of Bergamo (an hour). Need something a little more action-packed (perhaps for the kids)? Head to Gardaland (25 minutes) for a day of rides and critter-spotting at the aquarium, or pack your cossies to splash around at Prato Blu waterpark or Parco Cavour (35 minutes).
